Last year, there was quite a media push around the “no cupcake” campaign. I must admit, personally, I was less than inspired to be a part of the IWD concept and to attend yet another morning tea. I did attend the morning tea on site, although it was spent with many wonderful women. I felt like I wasn’t as committed to the effort to continue influencing change as I had been for the past 20 years. I genuinely thought, "why bother"? That comment alone is out of character for anyone who knows me personally. As I was walking away, a young woman stopped me, and her reflection on the impact of IWD was the complete opposite of mine. She was excited about equality and the steps being taken. I, on the other hand, could not help but feel that the point of IWD to strive for equality didn’t hit the mark. Why isn't IWD in the workplace hitting the mark for me? Situationally, I believe there has been a shift to segregation for IWD events in some instances. A lot more women than men are becoming the norm. If there was one occasion where the balance should be demonstrated, it was at these events. Additionally, over the years, I've become more concerned with the bias women demonstrate towards each other through their words and actions. The biassed men still confirm it with words and actions to their co-workers, employees, mates, and children without even recognising the damage it is doing. Therefore, instead of sitting back and saying, "I couldn't be bothered," I am once again stepping up to take some ownership of my continued drive to inspire equality in all parts of life. This year, I wanted to raise awareness around "Watching your Words" when it comes to bias and equality, both in the workplace and at home. - Adele Lorimer

If I asked you, "What is your story?" or "Who are you?" - how would you respond? Would you pause, unsure where to begin, or stumble over your words? Take a moment for yourself and reflect on the questions asked at the start. What are you telling yourself about who you are, as if you were describing a friend? Are you saying, "I am loved and valued by those around me," or is it something like, "I am not good enough"? The words we use to define ourselves shape how we live. Do they uplift and empower you, or do they hold you back? This new year is an opportunity to rewrite your story. What narrative about yourself will you let go of? And what empowering truth will you embrace to step into 2024 stronger, bolder, and more confident?

🎄 Day 10: Beat Burnout, Build Balance! 🎁 The holiday season is a whirlwind—a mix of joy, deadlines, celebrations, and the constant push to do more. It’s easy to feel stretched too thin, like there’s no time to catch your breath. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, you’re not alone. Burnout can creep in when we least expect it, but it doesn’t have to take over. Recognise the signs, listen to your body, and give yourself permission to pause. You’re human, not a machine, and taking care of yourself is the most productive thing you can do. Let’s navigate this busy season together—stronger, healthier, and more balanced. Tips to Manage and Avoid Burnout: • Acknowledge Your Limits: It’s okay to say no. Prioritise what truly matters to you. • Take Breaks: Even 5-10 minutes of quiet can make a big difference. Step away and recharge. • Practice Mindfulness: Focus on the present moment with gratitude and calm breathing. • Stay Hydrated and Nourished: Keep your energy up with proper hydration and meals. • Ask for Help: Lean on coworkers, friends, or family for support when things get overwhelming. • Set Realistic Goals: Avoid perfectionism—good enough is often more than enough. Remember, this time of year is about more than just finishing tasks or meeting goals. It’s about connection, reflection, and taking care of yourself. The work will still be there tomorrow, but your well-being is the foundation that carries you forward. Prioritise yourself—you deserve it.
