  • Today, on Human Rights Day, we reflect on an incredible 12 months since the official launch of Elevate, spearheaded by the inspiring Emeritus Professor Gillian Triggs, the former Assistant Secretary-General, Assistant High Commissioner for Protection, UNHCR. 🌍 In just one year, we’ve made significant strides in advocating human rights across critical areas: ☑️ Right to a Safe and Healthy Workplace ☑️ Right to Self-Determination ☑️ First Nations Justice ☑️ Intersectional Gender Equity ☑️ Freedom from Racial Discrimination ☑️ Freedom from Arbitrary Detention ☑️ Raising the Age of Criminal Responsibility ☑️ Alternatives to police as mental health first responders These issues lie at the heart of a fair and just society, and we’re immensely proud of the impact our work has had so far. We've also launched SafeSpace@elevate to support organisations eliminate harassment, bullying and discrimination. As we continue this journey, we are grateful for the support of all those championing these causes alongside us. Together, we are driving meaningful change and ensuring that human rights remain at the forefront of every conversation. Here’s to building a better, fairer future for all! • 🌈 New ANROWS Report Highlights the Experiences of LGBTQ Young People and Sexual Harassment 🌈 Another alarming report from ANROWS sheds light on the experiences of LGBTQ young people in the context of sexual harassment. The national study undertaken with over 1000 young people aged 14 to 30 years shows that 77% of LGBTQ young people have faced workplace sexual harassment, including inappropriate comments, intrusive questions, and jokes about their identities. This important research underscores the urgent need for intersectional approaches to tackle these challenges, particularly in workplaces where diverse voices and experiences must be respected and protected. At Elevate, we are working closely with organisations to understand the experiences of LGBTIQ workers through trauma-informed focus groups, interviews and surveys. From these insights, we are developing tailored strategies, including bespoke training and education, to address their experiences and prevent harm, fostering workplaces where every individual feels safe, respected, and valued. Through our anonymous reporting platform SafeSpace@elevate we support businesses to empower employees with intersecting identities to speak out about harmful workplace behaviours and seek trauma-informed support. Creating meaningful change requires listening, understanding, and acting. Together, we can build workplaces that truly celebrate and protect diversity.

  • Congratulations to our dear friends at Elizabeth Broderick & Co on the release of the Rio Tinto Everyday Respect Progress Review Report. We continue to be inspired by your leadership on workplace culture! In light of the findings, we've shared insights with HRD Australia on addressing backlash against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Key strategies include: 💡 Authentic Leadership Commitment: Ensure that the board, CEO, and C-suite leaders genuinely reaffirm their dedication to DEI, demonstrating its importance throughout the organisation. 💡 Data-Driven Communication: Utilise data and evidence to highlight the benefits of DEI, such as improved innovation, productivity, and workplace safety. This approach helps counter misconceptions and underscores the tangible advantages of diverse and inclusive environments. 💡 Addressing Misconceptions: Engage with employees to understand their concerns and provide clear information to dispel myths about DEI initiatives, fostering a culture of inclusion and respect. 💡 Embrace storytelling: use real life case studies to demonstrate how DEI programs have positively impacted individuals and teams in the workforce By implementing these measures, organisations can effectively navigate resistance and cultivate a more inclusive workplace culture. https://lnkd.in/gDxSCbdF

  • 🌟 Driving Gender Equality in Australian Workplaces – With Intersectionality at the Core 🌟 Australia is set to lead the way in workplace gender equality with new legislation requiring organisations with 500+ employees to set measurable targets to improve outcomes. This initiative will drive progress in critical areas such as: - Gender pay gap reduction - Flexible working arrangements - Representation in leadership - Addressing sexual harassment Employers will have three years to improve or achieve their chosen targets, ensuring focused action while addressing the broader complexities of inequality. By embedding intersectionality into strategies, workplaces can ensure no one is left behind in the pursuit of equality. Australia is taking a bold step forward, becoming the first country globally to require businesses to commit to gender equality targets. However, traditional gender equality measures often disproportionately benefit some women, overlooking the unique barriers faced by women with intersecting identities. This includes women from different cultural backgrounds, LGBTIQA+ women, neurodiverse women, women living with a disability and women from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. An intersectional approach is essential to ensure these targets drive meaningful change for ALL women to have access to the same opportunities.  Reach out to discuss how we can support your gender equity efforts: success@elevateconsultingpartners.com.au Dr Varina Michaels Ajay Venkatesan Prabha Gulati Amy Rogers

  • 🚨 New Research Highlights Alarming Rates of Workplace Harassment Among Migrant Women in Australia 🚨 Unions NSW has released powerful new research surveying 3,000 migrant women, revealing that over half (51%) have faced workplace sexual harassment. This stark finding highlights a pressing need for change in how workplaces address safety and support for migrant workers. Industry Breakdown of Harassment Rates: 🔹 Construction: 82% – the highest reported incidence 🔹 Horticulture: 53% 🔹 Hospitality: 51% 🔹 Retail: 50% 🔹 Cleaning: 42% Yet again, the research shows that most women don’t speak up after an incident. An alarming 75% of migrant women did not report sexual harassment, pointing to the added barriers faced by migrant women, often in particularly vulnerable positions. Prevention and response measures must be tailored for them, with accessible, trauma-informed, and culturally safe anonymous reporting pathways. This is why we developed SafeSpace@elevate—an anonymous reporting platform designed to support businesses of all sizes in providing inclusive, accessible, and safe channels for reporting and addressing harassment. https://lnkd.in/gJdapxSV It’s time for real action. At Elevate Consulting Partners, we’re here to help companies build environments where every worker feels safe, supported, and empowered to speak up.
