Find out the latest news from South East Queensland's electricity distribution business.
About us
Energex Limited (Energex) and its predecessor organisations have provided electricity to homes and businesses in South East Queensland since the late 19th Century. Energex was formed in 1997 to replace the South East Queensland Electricity Board (SEQEB) and until 2007 the company not only distributed electricity but also reticulated and sold gas and electricity products. The gas and electricity retail businesses and gas reticulation network were sold in 2006/07 prior to the commencement of full retail gas and electricity contestability in Queensland in July 2007. Now we distribute electricity to more than 1.4 million residential, commercial and industrial customers across a population base of around 3.2 million in South East Queensland. In 2016, we merged with regional Queensland electricity distributor Ergon Energy Network under the newly formed entity Energy Queensland. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians and pay our respect to all Elders past, present and emerging on whose land we walk, work and live on, and their continuing connection to land, sea and community.

𝗥𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲: 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽 𝗦𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗖 It’s no secret that for some veterans, the battles don’t stop when they return to civilian life. Trauma, stress, depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts can haunt ex-service men and women, taking a brutal toll on veterans and those who love them. And that’s where SMEAC INC. comes in. The veteran-run, veteran-operated charity understands the challenges faced by ex-servicepeople and their families, and Camp SMEAC lies at the heart of their wraparound support. The 50ac bush block on the beautiful Sunny Coat hinterland is a refuge, offering bespoke medical, psychological and allied health support, help with navigating the complexities of claims assessments, and simple, vital connection. It’s an exceptional holistic service and facility supporting veteran families across Qld – it just needed a bit of elbow grease. And that’s where our troops come in. Jon Friend is one of dozens of ex-service personnel working at Ergon Energy Network and Energex. Keen to lend a hand at Camp SMEAC, he put out feelers on the offchance just in case any colleagues might be interested in helping refurbish the camp’s old dormitories and amenities. Jon was hoping for a couple of offsiders. Instead, he got a mini-army: 30 workmates from across the area volunteered, including a number of fellow ex-defence personnel. Over two monster days, our team cleaned, sanded, painted, laid flooring, built gardens, and created private outdoor areas which will be used by veterans and their families to connect, regroup and recover. Some of our team who travelled hours to help camped out overnight to deliver maximum bang for their volunteering buck. For SMEAC Inc, the result was “magnificent”. “What your team did in such a short period of time was far more than (we) anticipated. They worked tirelessly…it was a great initiative, for a great cause, undertaken by great people.” Right back at you, Team SMEAC 🙌 Camp SMEAC is a reminder of the immense price paid by those who serve our country, and the debt we all owe them – something to ponder as Remembrance Day approaches. #lestweforget #veteranshelpingveterans #ADF #RemembranceDay2024 #RSLQld 📸 1. If knowledge is power, we're all about sharing it. Great to showcase our teams' work and experiences with the Australian Customer Experience Professionals Association (ACXPA), and to learn from their members - thanks for visiting!
I had the best day today! Brent Sheriff and I had the absolute pleasure of hosting today’s Australian Customer Experience Professionals Association (ACXPA) event where we had such a fantastic time talking about some of the work we do at Energy Queensland with our Ergon Energy Network and Energex customers across Queensland. It was a great opportunity to network with other customer experience professionals from such a broad range of industries. Thanks so much to linkABLE, Sarah Stone, Leanne and the other members of the ACXPA board and everyone that came along! Can’t wait for the next event!

With Queensland Ballet's extraordinary new production of Coco Chanel opening tonight, we're thrilled to see artists we supported as young dancers in starring roles. A decade-long scholarship partnership between Energex and Qld Ballet has fostered the talents of 60 student dancers, many of whom have gone on to shine in leading companies in Australia and internationally. Coco Chanel: The Life of a Fashion Icon opens tonight for a limited season until October 19: https://lnkd.in/gNPfzneQ Chookas to you all!
While many of our Company Artists started their dancing journey when they were just able to walk, developing into the world class artists you see today took huge commitment, from both the dancers and their families. 10 years ago Ergon Energy Network and Energex created a scholarship fund, allowing aspiring young dancers to access world class training through the Queensland Ballet Academy Pre-Professional Program. It is something special to work alongside an organisation that recognises the hard work and dedication of our dancers and understands the level of sacrifice that the journey to becoming a professional dancer can demand. Over the last 10 years, this generous scholarship has seen the development of some of our brightest talent at Queensland Ballet and abroad and we couldn't be more grateful to Ergon Energy and Energex for sharing in our mission to help foster these stars. Pictured here are a handful of scholarship recipients from the last 10 years, now Pre-Professional Program and Company Artists with the Queensland Ballet or professional dancers working abroad. We look forward to witnessing the journeys of the next generation of aspiring artists enabled by the Ergon Energy and Energex scholarship fund! 🩰 Read more about the fund and stories of our dancers HERE: https://lnkd.in/guEWUinr Luke DiMattina, 2017 Scholarship recipient Samuel Packer, Scholarship recipient 2015 Hana Nonaka Aillon, 2022 Scholarship recipient Renee Freeman, Scholarship recipient 2018 Max Jones, 2021 Scholarship recipient Rowan Schratzberger, 2020 Scholarship recipient Edison Manuel, 2020 Scholarship recipient Mia Paske, 2024 Scholarship recipient Energex Ergon Energy Network Energy Queensland #aspiringdancer #artsqueensland #queenslandballet #ausballet

This is a story with a happy ending that could easily have gone very differently if not for lightning-quick thinking and reflexes. Paige was on traffic control at one of our worksites on the Gold Coast when a car lost control after the driver suffered a medical episode. She chased after the runaway vehicle, managed to get control of it, and averted disaster; safeguarding our crews as well as helping the driver. Our own Brendan O'Meally and Renee Kath were delighted to be part of a 'thank you' event which recognised Paige's heroic actions.
AVADA Traffic employee Paige helps to save a life. What a remarkable story of bravery and quick thinking, which exemplifies the very best of our AVADA Traffic team, by our Traffic Controller Paige working on a client site at the Gold Coast in late June. Paige is based in the Gold Coast depot, and she demonstrated incredible heroism when she encountered a critical situation whilst on the job in Southport. A member of the public was driving their car through the work site area however they were having a seizure and were unable to control their car - they crashed into a sign on a roundabout. As the car was still moving Paige chased the car down, opened the door and stopped the out-of-control car. Paige’s heroism didn’t end there! She stayed by the driver’s side, providing comfort and reassurance until the ambulance arrived, and ensuring that the driver was cared for throughout the ordeal. Paige was presented with an Outstanding Safety Award by her manager and team on site. Dan Crowley, Managing Director and CEO of AVADA Group Limited stated, “I want to congratulate Paige on her very worthy award, and importantly thank her for her courageous act of bravery to assist a member of the public in their time of need and fulfilling her important role of protecting her co-workers, our Energex client, and the public." Paige’s quick thinking and courage are truly commendable, we are incredibly proud to have her as part of our AVADA Traffic team and she is a shining example of the AVADA Group Limited core values of being Skillful, Reliable, Helpful and Professional. Well done, Paige!

No island holiday for our crews Even the smallest network maintenance tasks in isolated communities can be complex, especially when dealing with islands without road access. When the scale of the work extends across four islands, the challenge grows exponentially. A recent project on the Southern Moreton Bay Island chain, south of Brisbane, exemplifies this. Our team was tasked with replacing the 11,000-volt bare overhead network on Russell, Macleay, Lamb, and Karragarra islands with covered conductors -an ambitious goal set for just one day. Given the heavily wooded environment of these islands, the insulated powerlines were necessary to minimise outages caused by high winds and vegetation, particularly during the upcoming summer storm season. The Tyranny of Distance: Reaching the Southern Moreton Bay Islands requires a 40-minute ferry ride across the bay, which, at first glance, seems manageable. However, coordinating the transport of 20 heavy trucks, including elevated work platforms as well as generators, specialised machinery, tonnes of conductor, replacement poles, and numerous light support vehicles - along with nearly 70 staff from six different mainland depots - turns this routine job into a highly complex military-style operation. No Surprises: Adding to the challenge, replacing the electrical backbone of these four isolated communities meant that no part of the network could provide backup power. Consequently, an all-day outage affecting more than 3,200 homes and businesses was necessary. To minimise community impact, extensive communication was required, including mail, flyers, posters, and face-to-face visits. Where feasible, temporary generation was provided to essential services such as small shopping precincts and the local school. The Outcome: Despite the planned outage from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., our crews successfully restored power to all affected properties with three minutes to spare before returning to the mainland. This accomplishment underscores the expertise and dedication of our technical staff and project coordinators, who make such large-scale upgrades within tight timeframes possible. Great work team!

Electric vehicle (EV) uptake is growing steadily: more than 53,000 EVs are now registered in Qld, and one in eight new cars sold in the Sunshine State over the past year were electric; either pure battery electric or plug-in hybrid electric. We’ve been monitoring this shift closely for years, and as an enabler of EV charging, we’ve just released our third Network Electric Vehicles Tactical Plan. It’s a 25-point overview of how @ergon energy network and @energex support EV owners’ charging decisions, monitor demand on the network, prepare for vehicle-to-grid connections, communicate and collaborate, and explore emerging aspects like electric trucks and heavy machinery, and kerbside charging. Check out an 8-page summary: https://lnkd.in/gnRNcE7f #electricvehicles #EVs #networkplanning #QEJP
