Energy Queensland's distribution businesses Ergon Energy Network and Energex are already playing a major role in delivering new, affordable and reliable energy. They have an accelerated deployment of network-connected, utility-scale batteries. This will also increase further as we move to deliver our Local Network Battery Plan. By 2029, we anticipate having 50 utility-scale batteries connected into our distribution networks across the state. We are also advancing our neighbourhood and community battery initiatives. These network-connected batteries are storing rooftop solar energy generated during the day, for use at night when energy demand is at its peak. https://lnkd.in/gh7WUK3P

Electricity is notoriously unforgiving which is why, in our sector, nothing trumps 'safety' as the #1 priority. But a safe workplace is so much more than one that's simply free from physical injury - it's about recognising and responding to psychosocial risks, to the changing landscape, to shifts in community expectations, and to the impacts and opportunities from new technology and new thinking. We're blessed with world-class safety teams at Energy Queensland, and it's great to see our own Ingrid Fuentes sharing her insights with other HSE leaders in Sydney last week.

Our business is energy, but our currency is relationships: the connections, insights and input from stakeholders in pretty much every sector of Queensland. This week, it was great to welcome many of them to our annual Stakeholder Breakfast at our Newstead office; to thank them for their immense contributions throughout the year, and to outline the work we’re doing as we prepare for the year ahead. Our three big focus areas? Affordability, reliability and sustainability; aspects which resonated with many of our guests. Hot on the heels of the recent state election, it was an opportunity for our stakeholders to meet Queensland’s new Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training, Ros Bates. Also in attendance were our executive leadership team, helmed by CEO Peter Scott as well as our Board, led by Chair Sarah Zeljko. Thank you all who shared their time and insights into shaping Energy Queensland’s direction – we look forward to working with you in 2025.

Accountability and helping to deliver customers an energy system that's affordable, reliable and sustainable was in sharp focus at the Energy Charter’s annual Joint Accountability Forum in Brisbane yesterday. This year marks six years since Energy Queensland became a foundation signatory to The Energy Charter to help foster better collaboration and accountability through the energy transition. Our Michael Dart - Chief Customer Officer and Board Director joined CS Energy CE Darren Busine and Powerlink CEO Paul Simshauser, together with Energy Charter CEO Sabiene Heindl, for a panel discussion and Q&A session. Maintaining accountability and transparency is at the heart of the Energy Charter and panellists discussed topics spanning everything from energy affordability for customers, to operating under social licence and the recent change of government. It was also an opportunity to highlight some of the work our business is doing to improve customer outcomes through initiatives such as our Customer Strategy Refresh, Local Renewable Energy Zones in Townsville and the Sunshine Coast, plus the 30 neighbourhood battery locations underway. 𝗥𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲: 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽 𝗦𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗖 It’s no secret that for some veterans, the battles don’t stop when they return to civilian life. Trauma, stress, depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts can haunt ex-service men and women, taking a brutal toll on veterans and those who love them. And that’s where SMEAC INC. comes in. The veteran-run, veteran-operated charity understands the challenges faced by ex-servicepeople and their families, and Camp SMEAC lies at the heart of their wraparound support. The 50ac bush block on the beautiful Sunny Coat hinterland is a refuge, offering bespoke medical, psychological and allied health support, help with navigating the complexities of claims assessments, and simple, vital connection. It’s an exceptional holistic service and facility supporting veteran families across Qld – it just needed a bit of elbow grease. And that’s where our troops come in. Jon Friend is one of dozens of ex-service personnel working at Ergon Energy Network and Energex. Keen to lend a hand at Camp SMEAC, he put out feelers on the offchance just in case any colleagues might be interested in helping refurbish the camp’s old dormitories and amenities. Jon was hoping for a couple of offsiders. Instead, he got a mini-army: 30 workmates from across the area volunteered, including a number of fellow ex-defence personnel. Over two monster days, our team cleaned, sanded, painted, laid flooring, built gardens, and created private outdoor areas which will be used by veterans and their families to connect, regroup and recover. Some of our team who travelled hours to help camped out overnight to deliver maximum bang for their volunteering buck. For SMEAC Inc, the result was “magnificent”. “What your team did in such a short period of time was far more than (we) anticipated.
