It started with a simple nudge from my wife—one of those offhanded remarks she likely forgot the moment she said it. But for me, it rekindled the memory of a moment that shifted our entire lives. 12 years ago, fresh from the thrumming chaos of the Kumbh Mela, I had a choice. One path led back to corporate life—the suits, the meetings, the comfort. The other? A leap of faith into photography. I chose the latter, as abruptly and decisively as a shutter snapping closed. Now, here we are: the Maha Kumbh Mela returns after its grand 12-year cycle in Prayag. Reading about it brought back memories so vivid I could almost hear the chants, feel the crush of the crowd, and see the shimmering Ganges, reflecting the glow of millions of souls gathered in devotion (I managed to take a picture of this!) For those who’ve never witnessed it, the Kumbh is less an event and more an experience—a living, breathing organism of humanity at its most profound. It’s humbling, chaotic, beautiful, and utterly unforgettable in color and emotion. If you’re already dreaming of Ujjain, 2028, let’s talk. "The Precinct" by Eric Yip XL https://lnkd.in/gAVBijFB The task was to refresh an image library with fresh and relevant visual assets for use in property campaigns, marketing materials, and branding, both internally and externally. The challenge, a familiar one, was to produce a broad range of images aligned with key messaging pillars: retail, entertainment, transport, meeting and collaborative spaces, fitness facilities, and end-of-trip services. Time was the greatest hurdle, with only two days allocated for the creation of stills and motion assets. This was a pleasure to shoot... Multiple locations, moving parts around the operational environment and more images than time would allow us to make! Serendipity - It happens often enough to me to recognise that it is special. I sat next to someone at a common working space in the city; deeply involved in work, there was no moment to say hello - just as you would when you sit next to someone on an airplane. That very night, we walked past each other at suburban food court - recognising that faint familiarity, we stopped to introduce ourselves... I can't help but draw parallels to the work we do in photography - it's such a fleeting moment to capture and if done just right... that search for the authentic moment ends. Embrace spontaneity in the creative process and set aside time for exploration / play; you might chance upon surprising and remarkable results. And... don't ignore intuition. It's powerful. Planning and making this set of images for Katie was wonderful. It isn't often you get to meet someone at the start of doing something transformative... and have the opportunity to document it with images. Katie and I started this from a blank sheet and a whole lot of enthusiasm. It rolled on with increasing momentum from there on... color schemes, the shot-list, locations, schedules etc... the only thing that got in the way was Mother Nature; and it was her right to do so! Ocean time is always special...

The temperature is dropping in Australia... Fond memories of Barrakee Lodge, where good times are made from good company, lush surroundings and the warmth of a cabin full of stories and history. We had the opportunity to create visual assets for the lodge, which they could use over any of their brand platforms. Working to concurrently create stills and video was an approach that maximised efficiency of the production, talent usage and operational down-time of the business.
