We’ve been working on something special and now we’re thrilled to share that our demo paper on Skill Proficiency, co-authored by Rebecca Dew (pictured), @Sandya Baratha Raj, and @Kane Li, was accepted and presented at #CIKM2024 - a leading Data Science conference by ACM, Association for Computing Machinery! Our paper explores how advanced skill proficiency modeling, powered by LLMs like GPT-4, can reshape career planning and talent management—making it easier for individuals and organizations to assess, measure, develop, and align skills with today’s evolving job market. Presenting this patented work to some of the world’s leading data science researchers and companies, such as the likes of Google, Microsoft and IBM, was a privilege. We were blown away by the level of interest from HR professionals, educators, recruiters, and ambitious students. Our paper also passed a rigorous blind review process, receiving enthusiastic reviews from expert panel members. A reviewer noted the framework’s strength in “providing clear, standardized descriptions of skill [proficiency] levels, making it easier for individuals to plan their career paths and for organizations to manage talent… The use of advanced language models ensures these descriptions are high-quality and consistent.” Another applauded our user scenarios, highlighting the application’s comprehensive support for career pathways and talent identification. The responses we received were invaluable, reaffirming our innovation and the practical impact of our work. We’re truly excited for the #futureofwork and committed to pioneering in this space.
