Ending the week with some exciting news! A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to speak with Landline ABC News about Farmers Pick and the importance of not only rescuing perfectly imperfect fruits and veggies but also reshaping consumers’ perceptions of what fresh produce should look like. A big thank you to ABC News for helping raise awareness of our mission, and to Catherine Velisha VEG Education for being a fantastic advocate and sharing invaluable insights into the challenges farmers face every day. #landline #abcnews #farmerspick #sustainability #foodwaste #environment #eco #foodwaste

This is some big news, so you might want to take a seat... We’ve been named one of Australia’s fastest-growing start-ups by The Australian Financial Review Fast Starters List! We’ve sure come a long way from delivering boxes in our red 'bongo' van to family and friends, thanks to Nan for our very first order! This recognition is not just a testament to the hard work our team has put into rescuing food waste and providing the freshest, tastiest produce for our subscribers. It’s also proof that Australians are passionate about saving perfectly imperfect fruits and veggies and building a food system that benefits both farmers and consumers. We want to sincerely thank our teams, farmer partners, suppliers, and, most importantly, our community, who’ve supported us through all the ups and downs over the years. Rest assured, we’re not stopping here. We can’t wait to keep growing, innovating, and rescuing even more produce from going to waste. Stay tuned! A big thank you to 7NEWS Australia for discussing the unrealistic beauty standards set by supermarkets and for helping spread the word about our efforts at Farmers Pick to rescue rejected produce! Ugly avocados, pockmarked zucchinis, and crooked asparagus are just a few examples of perfectly imperfect produce that often get rejected. Each year, 2.4 billion kgs of produce never leave the farm—this is why we’re on a mission to fight food waste. Join us in the fight by trying a box today! #farmerspick #sustainability #sevennews #news #farmer #australia #agriculture

🥳 Sound the alarm because Farmers Pick's brand-new website is HERE! 🥳 We've been working hard over the past year, taking feedback from our community to create a more robust and intuitive experience. A big thank you to our friends at The Working Party for making this happen, to our entire Farmers Pick team, and, of course, to our community for their tremendous support during this transition period. Fighting food waste and supporting Aussie farmers using strategic UX and clever design — we are proud to share that Farmers Pick are now live on Shopify Plus. This strategic migration project analysed each customer journey under a microscope, created a custom shipping solution and re-envisioned the visual identity of the brand. The subscription technology underpinning it all? Submarine's complex solution. This is the future of groceries. Food Waste - the known but little explored conundrum! Yesterday I had the pleasure of supporting Rob Anderson and the Climateers team at the 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭. https://lnkd.in/gHNxtCi9 It was a great event and the panelists shared so many surprises and inspiring stories, and the interns from a range of universities did an excellent job facilitating insight gathering discussions in the afternoon. Empauer - Victor Barichello, Saveful - Kim McDonnell, End Food Waste Australia - Jonathan Middis, Cirque du Soil - Jean Darling, ARECO - Geoff Davis, SecondBite -Rachael Terry, Foodbank Australia, Helping Hands Mission Inc. - Melanie Gill, Farmers Pick - Joshua Ball, OzHarvest, Yarra Valley Water - Stephanie Salinas, Repurposeit Resale - Thomas Fox, Bardee - Phoebe Gardner, Eco Guardians Pty Ltd - Phillip Spring, Cleanaway Waste Management - Catherine Phillips Some of my key takeaways included: 💡 The belief that we don’t waste food is 𝒆𝒙𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒍𝒚 𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓-𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒍𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒔; home, small businesses to big producers. One company estimated annual loss due to food waste as about $1million in a year… effective assessment showed it to be $14million in loss! 💡 Every year 𝟏𝟑𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐬 of plastic leak into Australia’s maritime ecosystem 💡 Businesses 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 significantly; which can be a hard concept to grasp! 💡 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧: Teams, companies, and even supply chains struggle to move beyond their own perspectives, hindering effective collaboration and overall success. There is so much 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐥𝐥 do to support businesses, our families and own business for a sustainable future. 📣 Collaboration is key to any initiative. Woo-hoo! Our friends at Wonki got featured in Daily Mail Australia and Yahoo News! In case you didn't know, Wonki is a company founded by three uni students—Gabriel Tucker, Max Moolman, and Bridget Lansell. Just like us, they are committed to fighting food waste by turning wonky fruits into tasty vodka soda drinks. 😋 We've been proudly working together, providing them with fresh, perfectly imperfect produce! We can't wait to see what else we can create together. 🥳 Read the full articles here: https://lnkd.in/gS-cifh4 https://lnkd.in/gEm7Ect4 #foodwaste #wonki #farmerspick #sustainability #news #startup #smallbusiness #localbusiness

Thank you, Daily Mail Australia and Yahoo News, for covering our efforts in rescuing over 5,000 kilos of avocados! These avocados were rejected by supermarkets due to minor scarring on their skins and irregular sizes. Supermarkets have strict, unrealistic beauty standards, and avocados that don’t meet their requirements, even by a small margin, are immediately discarded. This is especially frustrating given the rising cost of living, which leaves many Australians struggling to incorporate fresh fruits and veggies into their diets. We have been rescuing these avocados, along with other perfectly imperfect fruits and veggies, from going to waste and delivering them directly to our subscribers at prices up to 30% cheaper than supermarkets. This effort ensures that less food is wasted, and more Aussies have access to fresh produce. Check out our website to learn more about our missions or read the full articles here: https://lnkd.in/gtKkjsYs https://lnkd.in/gyVzEmBA #avocado #foodwaste #farmerspick #news #sustainability
Ridiculous reason thousands of avocados dumped for landfill – and it's a 'hidden factor' in higher prices
