Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! 🌊🛥️ Our biggest-ever training exercise in the Kimberley put over 50 crew members to the test in a high-pressure rescue scenario off the coast. The mission? Saving a family in distress near One Arm Point – one of WA’s most remote spots! 😮 This multi-agency effort brought together Marine Rescue, State Emergency Service, WA Police Force, St John WA, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and Norforce, working as one team to anchor challenging land and water rescues and tackle real-life scenarios. Safe to say, our crews are ready to keep things smooth sailing this summer 💙⛵

Working together to keep our State safe.
About us
Our dedicated emergency services personnel and volunteers work together to deliver comprehensive emergency management when natural disasters and emergency incidents strike. Together we tackle all that WA has to throw at us. We prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from cyclones, floods, earthquakes, road crash incidents, search and rescue, structural fires and hazardous material spills. It’s not an easy task. We can’t do this alone. We are a volunteer-based organisation that is supported by over 26,000 volunteers who generously offer their time and expertise to work with their communities to make them safer. Our volunteers have varying roles, interests and skills, but the one thing that they all have in common is their desire to help keep our State safe. We believe that by empowering our people, we will create a diverse and capable organisation where we are united and supportive. It’s crucial that as a collective, our employees, our volunteers and the general public have all the tools they need to safely and effectively manage emergency events. We work better together.

We felt privileged to join Volunteering WA's International Volunteer Day Garden Party at Government House Lower Gardens, celebrating the incredible individuals who selflessly serve their communities year after year 💙 More than 740 volunteers from over 80 organisations, including our dedicated volunteers and cadets, came together to reflect on how volunteering unites people and strengthens communities. International Volunteer Day is a reminder that we simply cannot keep WA safe without the tireless efforts of our skilled and committed volunteers – especially those in regional and remote areas. With our humble volunteer first responders often hesitant to share their achievements, this annual event is a chance to shine a spotlight on their extraordinary contributions and express our deepest gratitude.

Keep the mo-mentum going! 😉💙 Whether you grew a mo to save a bro, hosted a mo-ment, or mo-ved more, Movember is all about making a difference for healthier men and stronger communities. This year, our incredible Brigades, Groups, and Units (BGUs) across WA came together, rallying behind The Movember Foundation and raising an amazing $20,618 for this mo-mentous cause! It’s not just about the funds – it’s about raising awareness and taking action to save lives. Thank you to everyone who participated, donated and supported our efforts. Together, we’ve shown the incredible impact we can have when we unite for a good cause.

Meet the 103-year-old volunteer with a heart of gold 💙 Legacy volunteer firefighter Harold Proud is one of WA's unsung heroes – and possibly the oldest bushfire brigade member in Australia 😉 Volunteering is a family affair for Harold, seen here with the youngest of his 12 great-grandchildren. He says that volunteering keeps him feeling healthy – a passion he proudly shares with his daughter and son-in-law, who are also dedicated members of the selfless team at Kulin North Volunteer Fire Brigade. To Harold and the more than 26,000 volunteers from Marine Rescue WA, Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service️, Volunteer Fire and Emergency Service, Bush Fire Service, State Emergency Service and Youth Programs — thank you for your service as we mark International Volunteer Day 👏

Be like Mel 👏 Mel's bushfire plan is to Leave Early 🔥 To mark International Day of People with Disability, let's take the opportunity to check in on someone we know with a disability to see if they have a bushfire plan ready to go for summer – it could save their life. In an emergency, we encourage the community to look out for neighbours, friends and family who may not be able to understand, access or act upon bushfire information or warnings. It’s just one way each of us can make positive changes to the lives of the 5.5 million Australians with a disability.

Emergency services are a diverse community united by one purpose – keeping Western Australians safe 💙 For the fifth year, our incredible volunteers, career firefighters and staff came together to march through the streets of Northbridge as part of PrideFEST, proudly celebrating diversity and inclusion of the LGBTQI+ community. Together, we marched with Pride 🌈

A concerted effort to engage local businesses during the recovery from the 2023 Kimberley Floods has unlocked a new era of economic opportunity in the region. One of the main objectives during the flood recovery has been to 'build back better' – not only hiring locals for reconstruction projects but also ensuring those jobs lead to long-term employment. Watch the short video below to hear the story of the Fitzroy Valley. You can view the full video at: https://lnkd.in/gaSiAhGt. Stephen Dawson Shire of Derby/West Kimberley

Good vibes for the guys 💙 Today, on International Men's Day, we celebrate the men who lead by example – the champions who show up for themselves and others, protect and support their loved ones and contribute to their communities in meaningful ways. This day is also a reminder to prioritise men's health, highlight positive role models and recognise the impact men have in shaping a better world. This year’s theme is Men’s Health Champions, and with almost two in five (37%) Australian men dying from preventable causes before they reach 75, we encourage all Australians to reach out to a mate who's doing it tough and help them take action toward a healthier life.

Leaving critical decisions to the last minute can be fatal when a bushfire is raging toward your home 🔥🏡 As part of ABC Emergency Awareness Day, our Commissioner Darren Klemm AFSM spoke with ABC Perth presenter Nadia Mitsopoulos to urge every Western Australian to create a bushfire plan before summer arrives, so they know exactly what to do when disaster strikes. You need to answer three key questions: Where will you go? What will you take? How will you get there? It’s just as important to pack a battery-operated radio in your emergency kit. If power and mobile networks go down, your local ABC Radio will keep you informed with the latest Alerts and Warnings. Our relationship with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) as an emergency broadcaster is vital in continuing to provide critical information during major incidents.
