  • ** Fire Department New York (FDNY) in Melbourne ** It was great to be part of the IFE presentation last month where FDNY shared their invaluable experience. The risks associated with Lithium-Ion batteries and its use in light electric vehicles (LEVs) were the key talking points. Some of our key lessons learnt are:   - Statistics show that Li-ion battery fires are not just limited to when they are charging, but could occur outside these times - The quality of battery packs plays a huge role in its likelihood of ignition. It is therefore recommended to purchase E-bikes, E-scooters etc. from trusted suppliers - It is vital to educate the public about the risks associated with storing and charging E-bikes at home, especially their location with respects to exits - Societal trends always have an impact on the risk profile of buildings, e.g. more reliance on food delivery increases the number of E-bikes stored in building and on footpaths - It is important to dispose of used/spent Li-ion batteries responsibly as they are more likely to catch fire when exposed to heat and moisture or crushed, resulting in fires in garbage trucks and waste facilities.   Staying abreast of technological advancements and emerging fire safety concerns is all part of our role. Drop us a line if you would like to understand these risks further and how they can be considered in new building designs.

  • Project Completion - Aboriginal Housing Victoria (AHV) Dandenong draws inspiration from the Ngaruk Willam people's culture and Country, and offers suitable, affordable housing to long-term Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents. https://lnkd.in/gCrGVKvR

Our completed Aboriginal Housing Victoria (AHV) Dandenong project draws inspiration from the Ngaruk Willam people's culture and Country, reimagining the connection between these important elements within an urban social housing setting. Comprising ten 1- and 2-bedroom homes, AHV Dandenong offers suitable, affordable housing to long-term Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents. Seamlessly integrated into the neighbourhood streetscape, the building's façade presents a unified townhouse appearance from the street. At its heart lies a communal courtyard—an embodiment of connectivity—visually and physically linking all dwellings while honouring the land through thoughtful planting and landscape design. This outdoor space not only echoes the story of Country but also serves as a cultural learning sanctuary and a versatile area for residents to unwind, play, and connect. James Gilliland Toby Lauchlan Andrew Calleja Project built by ADMA Group Pty Ltd & project managed by Accuraco. Our very own senior architect James Gilliland will be speaking on First Nations Design and the AHV Dandenong project at the Australian Institute of Architects #CountryCultureCommunity symposium in Nipaluna (Hobart) in February.
