Victoria's largest food relief charity. Follow us to help fight hunger and food waste.

About us

Foodbank Victoria is an independent not-for-profit organisation with almost 90 years’ experience providing food relief. We are the largest provider of food relief in Victoria, including in times of disaster as part of the State Relief and Recovery Team. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation and pay our respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging. Our vision is healthy food for all Victorians, yet 1 in 5 people – including children – go hungry each year. To ensure we can reach as many people as possible, we work with food donors across the supply chain to source edible food from farmers, manufacturers and retailers. This often includes product that is out of specification, close to its best-before date, has incorrect labelling or damaged packaging, as well as excess stock and discontinued products. Without Foodbank, much of this food would simply go to landfill. Unfortunately, donations of food don’t always meet demand. In an innovative approach to fighting hunger, we work with some of Australia’s leading food manufacturers to secure a sustainable supply of essential items for our Key Staples Program. We also run programs in Victoria to target particular vulnerable groups, such as our School Breakfast Clubs, Farms to Families pop-up markets, and Essential Pantry Program. In 2017/18, we were able to distribute 8.4 million kilograms of staple, fresh and frozen foods, personal hygiene items and household products. This volume is the equivalent of putting 15 million meals on tables for people in need. We continue to work with more than 450 charity partners around the state to feed more than 116,000 people a month — nearly one-third of whom are children. If your organisation can support our work, please get in touch.

It's not every day you get to learn how to boot scoot like Russell Coight! Whilst there is no fear that I'll be put forward for the National Boot Scootin team, it was a lot of fun meeting Glenn Robbins (aka Russell Coight) in the warehouse and getting a 101 class. I think I might have been better qualified for the Kel Knight walk. 😂 Glenn not only spent some time with our volunteers but has also generously lent his time to design a spatula as part of a range of celebrity spatulas on sale at Minimax. It's the perfect stocking filler, secret santa or teacher gift (and 100% of profits will be donated to Foodbank). Check out the full range at minimax.com.au 👩🍳

This might possibly be the best 'jump' we've seen all year! Team Dow were very enthusiastic participants in our corporate volunteering program last week. They spent the day working their socks off and packed 13,307 kg of food, that's the equivalent of 26,589 meals for families in need. We can't do what we do without the help of people like Dow...so thank you for the energy you brought, it means the world to us and a few more meals for Victorians in need. If you'd like to get your team involved in 2025, hit the link below for more information. https://lnkd.in/g3yPBWs #teamdow #SeekTogether

Christmas time is a BUSY time, so we’ll make this quick. If you want to help Foodbank spread the love this Christmas, it’s as easy as 1-2-3. 1. Sign up to host your very own Virtual Christmas Table to fundraise for Foodbank. 2. Rally your friends, your family, your colleagues – basically anyone and everyone you know – to gift a seat for $10.  3. Fill your table with as many seats as you can, to help Foodbank create a seat for ALL this Christmas. It’s our goal to create an extra 69,000 seats at the table for the 69,000 people Foodbank Victoria is feeding every single day. Can you help us make that happen? To create your table, head to https://lnkd.in/gMRJdsCQ 💜

FACT: Right now, there are folks who can’t afford to buy fresh fruit and veggies for their families. So we have been working with the City of Melbourne to identify areas with the highest food insecurity. In response to this we have run 3 Farms to Families markets at Federation Square, and today, our very first at Queen Vic Market. We saw students, mums with young families, elderly folks and local residents, many with jobs, who’ve seen their mortgages and rents increase to the point where food is now a discretionary item. Today they walked away from the market with bags filled with 8 varieties of fresh produce and bread. 😊🥦😊

We are heading toward a more food secure Gippsland. With the help of AusNet as of today, we are on a more financially and environmentally stable path. Through their Energy Resilience Community Fund we have just received our very first electric food van which will enable us to make our impact greater across Gippsland. AusNet has also contributed toward an emergency food relief fund specifically for future climate disasters. Many thanks also goes to Mondo for providing a whizz bang charging solution for the operation of our new electric van!
