We're charging towards Real Zero and the decarbonisation of our mining operations by 2030. #RealZero
About us
We're a proud West Australian company, recognised for our culture, Values, innovation and industry leading development of infrastructure and mining assets. As one of the world’s lowest cost iron ore producers, Fortescue is now shipping at an annual rate of over 180 million tonnes with more than 1.7 billion tonnes of iron ore delivered to our customers since 2008. Through our green energy and technology company FFI, we are rapidly diversifying our business to become an integrated, global green energy and resources company. Key to this transition are our industry leading targets to achieve carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 and net zero Scope 3 emissions by 2040. For our size and scale, there is no other mining company in the world that is taking the action we are to eliminate emissions.

NEWS JUST IN: FORTESCUE AWARDS US$400 MILLION CONTRACT TO XCMG Fortescue has purchased over 100 pieces of zero emissions Heavy Mobile Equipment under a deal with Chinese heavy machinery manufacturer, XCMG. “We’re moving rapidly to decarbonise our Pilbara iron ore operations and eliminate our Scope 1 and 2 terrestrial emissions by 2030. To achieve this target, we will need to swap out hundreds of pieces of diesel mining equipment at the end of their life with zero emissions alternatives,” said Fortescue Metals Chief Executive Officer, Dino Otranto. #RealZero

Shipping 🚢 is the backbone of global trade, with 90% of traded goods shipped by sea. But fossil fuels have had a grip on this industry for far too long. It’s time for change. Our Green Pioneer, the world’s first ammonia-capable vessel, has shown a viable course to replace marine fossil fuels and decarbonise the bulk of the global supply chain as we move the world towards Real Zero. #RealZero

Multilateral institutions play a vital role in the shift to a zero-emissions energy economy. Sara Edmonson joined with our OECD - OCDE partners to layout how emissions reduction should be a central objective for key global institutions. Eliminating fossil fuels will take coordinated action, backed by strong public policies that guide all economies towards Real Zero.

Green iron is our economic future, and we're building our way forward today. Bronwyn Grieve laid out our plan to drive practical policy change that incentivises deep decarbonisation and enables green iron projects. Industrial momentum toward Real Zero will create jobs and economic opportunity. We call on all jurisdictions to join us in a race to the top.

Climate education is both crucial and more necessary than ever before. Dr Shanta Barley joined our friends and partners at UN Verified for Climate for a timely discussion of our shared goals. Together, we are committed to showing how decarbonisation is not only possible, but profitable. Winning the economic argument is essential for coalition building and to explaining how we can win the fight against climate change. Purpose Melissa Fleming

Placing the phase out of fossil fuels at the heart of national climate plans is good business. Robert Tichio laid out at COP29 how capital flows when guided by clear decarbonisation plans. Fortescue is clear in our support for all countries and companies to set science-based emissions reduction targets and back them with rigorous, transparent and ambitious delivery plans.
