Babcock has successfully integrated three Australian suppliers into our global supply chain following a procurement request for an in-water inspection and clean on a Royal New Zealand Navy frigate in Australian waters. Franmarine, Allship Engineering, and Ausbright Electrical Solutions have secured five contracts to conduct vital maintenance work on HMNZS Te Kaha. This marks a significant milestone for our Australasian supply chain, enhancing sovereign defence capabilities in the region. This integration reinforces the potential of local solutions in international markets. Babcock’s dedicated delivery team has been rigorously pursuing export opportunities for its sovereign supplier base after being handpicked to join the Global Supply Chain Program in July 2024, with dozens of live procurements being progressed. FranmarineFlinders University and Austal collaborate to demonstrate Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Inspection Capability in support of shipbuilding and sustainment. With the objective of meeting the immediate needs of the maritime industry, Franmarine is working in collaboration with ARC Training Centre for Biofilm Research & Innovation to develop autonomous underwater capabilities. The mission planning technology enables a vehicle to independently operate underwater, following a predetermined route to methodically inspect the hull of a platform. The vehicle can regulate its depth and course, adjusting for tide and current without requiring any external input. What this means is that a broader community, including autonomous naval platforms, can make use of this capability without requiring personnel trained in ROV operations, Classification requirements, biosecurity regulations and reporting specifications. Through integrating the Autonomous vehicle with the #MarineStream software, the inspection was able to be viewed in real-time remotely, enabling stakeholders to directly observe the condition of the vessel's hull. This integrated capability is designed to improve underwater inspection, maintenance and repair outcomes.  When it comes to biofouling management, inspecting a vessel is only the beginning. Once the level of marine growth has been assessed, objective analysis of the impact this is having on a vessel's performance and how this relates to compliance with International Biofouling Regulations can occur. Franmarine can accurately calculate the additional operating cost and GHG emissions directly attributed to the biofouling on a platform. Through tracking the level of fouling, the optimum periodicity for environmentally compliant In-Water Cleaning with capture is determined to realise cost-efficiencies, increase platform availability, maintain optimum performance and cut harmful environmental emissions. We are incredibly thankful to Austal for enabling us to successfully demonstrate this capability in Henderson, WA. #Franmarine #MarineStream #BiofoulingManagement #UnderwaterEngineering #UnderwaterSustainment #Diving #ROV #Autonomous #IntegratedCapability

A father of three, CEO & Managing Director of Franmarine; Australia’s Sovereign Underwater Sustainment Provider.

With reference to the Western Trade Coast Business Network post below To all vessel operators that are impacted by the pivot of some Henderson suppliers to Defence, in support of Australia’s national security, Franmarine is here to help. Our technology enabled underwater sustainment services include: • In-water hull cleaning • Propeller polishing • Class survey (DNV, ABS, LR, BV & NK) • Underwater engineering • Advanced NDT • Underwater welding • Underwater blast and paint Franmarine provides a integrated underwater cleaning, inspection, maintenance, repair and preservation capability in lieu of dry-docking. We working with authorities and employing innovative technology to help extend dry-docking intervals. Beyond the underwater services, we are objectively quantifying the commercial benefits of proactive biofouling management with #MarineStream. Please do not hesitate to DM me if you’re interested and / or concerned.

So is this the first sign of things to come? Those suppliers that have been working with industry across the board, now cherry pick in favour of defence? Don’t get me wrong – this is a whole new level of opportunity with Defence and WA going hand in hand BUT we know there will be an impact to our local industries, businesses, logistics, transport corridors, land opportunity and so on. The frustrating part is for us on the ground, waiting for updates, communication and alternatives from relevant agencies. In every business you have a 1 year, 5 year and 10 year plan. So with all these changes, how do we prep now for a totally different world in 5 years, that we know nothing about? This is what we are hearing from local business and industry especially on the Western Trade Coast The not knowing and planning for stay put-move on, upsize in current industry, change direction to defence, 'mind our own business and hope it doesn’t impact us too much’ thought process. Once we have clairity, then we can work with it. Whatever ‘IT’ may be. Let’s hope there is a lot more communication and planning for alternatives this year so the #WTC can go with the growth! • Last week, Franmarine was privileged to host the Hon Paul Papalia CSC, MLA, Minister for Police; Corrective Services; Racing and Gaming; Defence Industry; Veterans Issues at our Henderson premise. The visit was to brief the Minister on Franmarine's consolidated underwater engineering and biofouling management capability integrated with innovative technology that provides a unique holistic capability. Biofouling management contributes directly to Australia’s environmental, economic, health, cultural and tourism sustainability. The integrated in-water services delivered by Franmarine increase the availability and operational effectiveness of both Defence platforms and commercial vessels by reducing the requirement to dry dock. When delivering capability using the #MarineStream software platform, the commercial benefits generated by the work are quantified including fuel savings and reduced GHG emissions. Other topics of discussion were the Henderson Defence Precinct, and how Franmarine's Global Headquarters will enable Franmarine to meet demand throughout the region and around the world. #Franmarine #MarineStream #UnderwaterEngineering #BiofoulingManagement #UnderwaterSustainment #AIC #LocalSupplyChain #AUKUS
