About us

G.U.I.R exists to support the private, government and community sectors. We achieve this by providing high level direction and specialisations drawing from our unique experience and capacities across: - defence member and veteran suicide prevention - program co-design and delivery - research and evaluation - coaching and mentoring - employee development; e.g. cultural safety, leadership, board governance - organizational capacity building - community engagement activities - Youth Leadership and Trauma recovery programs and camps - G.U.I.R also works to promote community cohesion with a focus on marginalised groups who may be at risk of radicalisation G.U.I.R’s proprietary Coaching Model COURAGE: (Culture, Optimism, Understanding, Relationships, Acceptance, Gratitude and Encouragement), was developed from a cross-cultural alliance between Indigenous and mainstream mental health practitioners. The model provides a culturally safe and holistic framework to guide G.U.I.R's work. The model incorporates third-wave therapeutic resources with First Nations wisdom traditions and elements of military leadership. This work was mentioned in the citation by the Chair of the Academic Board for the award of Honorary Doctorate in Health Sciences which was conferred upon G.U.I.R's founder and Managing Director Ken Zulumovski by the University of Sydney. G.U.I.R's corporate social responsibility project is Gamarada Indigenous Healing and Life Training Pty Ltd. The DGR and TE status charity, responds to the therapeutic and educational need for culturally safe community programs targeting family violence, addiction, suicide prevention and family dislocation. This work was independently validated by UNSW. The charity also functions to improve access to education, justice and health care and was recognised by the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet with an Excellence Award for Building Leadership in Indigenous Communities.

  • Evidence Review. Big news for Aboriginal-led Early Support Programs, children, families and youth. Aboriginal-led Early Support Programs Evidence Review In 2023 Gamarada Universal Indigenous Resources Pty Ltd in conjunction with the NSW Department of Communities and Justice conducted an evidence review on Aboriginal-led early support programs and services to improve the wellbeing of Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities. The review involved an electronic database search, a grey literature search and community outreach to elicit other sources of evidence regarding effective community services and programs for Aboriginal families. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to ensure that the evidence related to Aboriginal designed and delivered early support programs only. The Evidence Portal Technical Specifications were not used in conducting this evidence review. This allowed the review to identify a broad range of evidence and specifically culturally-appraised evidence (evidence validated through a First Nations value lens) which may not be captured by standard evidence reviews using the hierarchy of evidence. The combined search strategies identified 79 evidence sources after inclusion and exclusion criteria had been applied. The Aboriginal research team from Gamarada then conducted a cultural appraisal of each individual piece of evidence using an Aboriginal Cultural Lens Matrix. Evidence rated highly through the cultural lens appraisal was analysed to identify eight common effective features of Aboriginal-led early support programs:  Community designed or co-designed; Community-led; Cultural safety; Strengths-based, culture-affirming approaches; Trauma-informed and healing-focused; Holistic, wraparound components; Collaboration and coordination with mainstream services; and Flexible delivery. For more information about the evidence review, see the Evidence to Action Note (PDF, 203.1 KB) and the Full Report (PDF, 1.7 MB) here. https://lnkd.in/gXRt4XrQ Limitations The following limitations in the review should be noted: Only programs and practices supported by some kind of documentation were included. Therefore, the review does not include evidence for programs lacking documentation. The review did not conduct a critical appraisal of the evidence about outcomes, and therefore further investigation is required to assess the strength of the evidence regarding the effectiveness of the programs.
