  • If you're attending #AIOH24, check out GCG’s Brendan Egberts' presentation on research ‘Monitoring worker dust exposure in concrete manufacturing with a real-time aerosol monitor’, showing how effective real-time monitoring can reduce workplace exposure and revolutionise exposure assessments.    Traditional sampling methods often fail to address questions about exposure sources, control effectiveness, and risk levels. Real-time monitoring has emerged as a solution, offering immediate feedback to workers in a tangible and easily understood format.   This study, conducted in a precast concrete manufacturing facility, used traditional monitoring techniques to identify that worker exposure was within allowable levels (with one workgroup requiring additional investigation). Then, real-time monitoring techniques were used allowing previously unseen exposure sources to be identified and addressed. The study demonstrated that real-time monitoring is a key asset in exposure assessments to verify control measures and improve worker health.   AIOH24, Session 7D, 4:15pm, Monday 2 December.

  • We recently ran our Basic Principles of Hygiene (BPOH) course in-house at CPB Contractors (CPB). CPB took the initiative to enhance the understanding of occupational hygiene within its teams and increase the number of experienced WHS personnel trained in this competency within the company. The course took place over 5-days at CPB’s offices in Brisbane and was attended by 19 staff, comprising key members of its health and safety teams from across Australia and New Zealand. Conducting an in-house course allowed us to tailor the course content specifically for CPB and promote group engagement and sharing of experiences. GCG is an approved Occupational Hygiene Training Association (OHTA) training provider. If you’re interested in organising similar in-house training for your team, feel free to get in touch.

  • GCG Hygiene Innovation Consultant Luke Di Corleto recently visited our Perth office to provide in-house training on real-time particulate monitoring (RTPM) for some of our WA team members.  The training is designed to provide our occupational health consultants with the required knowledge to plan and undertake RTPM assessments, including:  • Understanding the principles and importance of real-time particulate monitoring.  • Learning the types, functionalities and limitations of real-time dust monitoring equipment.  • Developing skills in planning sampling, using equipment, maintaining equipment, troubleshooting and acquiring data.  • Learning basic interpretation and analysis of monitoring data.  • Learning how to apply this knowledge to manage workplace exposures. If you’re interested in learning more about RTPM, we are offering a first-of-its-kind Continuing Education Sessions (CES) course, ‘Planning and Deployment of Real-Time Particulate Monitoring (RTPM) Programs’ at the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH) AIOH24 Conference in Perth on 1 December. You can attend the course even if you’re not registered for the conference.

  • GCG’s Operations Manager and Senior Consultant, Richard Crafter and MSC Professional Services Pty Ltd’s Director, Sam Curtis, were recently in Pakistan working with the Reko Diq Mining Company (RDMC) at the Reko Diq Copper Gold Project, which is currently in development. The project, which is jointly owned by Barrick Gold Corporation, the Government of Pakistan and the Province of Balochistan, holds one of the world’s largest undeveloped copper-gold deposits. During peak construction, the project is expected to engage 7,500 people, and once in production it will create 4,000 long-term jobs, most of whom will be from the local Balochistan region.      GCG completed a walk-through health hazard identification and health exposure risk assessment of the early works phase. This work further supported the operation in the development of a high-level strategic plan for the management of occupational health and hygiene. Onsite technical support has commenced to assist RDMC with management of identified health risks.     GCG is excited to be working with Reko Diq Mining Company on this significant project and looks forward to helping our client manage its health and hygiene exposures.
