🏗 GECA standard in the spotlight 🚛 We're excited to share that our CEO, Joshua Begbie, and Head of Communications, Kendall Benton-Collins, were recently featured in an interview with Inside Waste au magazine's Managing Editor, Mike Wheeler, about the development of GECA's game-changing Construction & Demolition Waste lifecycle ecolabel standard to reduce the impact of this fast-growing waste stream. As we celebrate Planet Ark's #NationalRecyclingWeek, we're keen to highlight that, according to Australia's National Waste Report 2022, C&D waste has more than doubled over the past 15 years. By 2025, it is expected that 2.2 billion tonnes of construction waste will be generated worldwide! 📈 A crucial part of certification under GECA's standard is measuring, documenting, and reporting to demonstrate the diversion of at least 90% of C&D waste from landfill ♻ "I think there can be a tendency for some people to feel, ‘Ah, you know, we're doing alright. We’re good. We'll just stay there’. 🌍 GECA Update: Strengthening Global Connections for a Sustainable Future 🌍 Over the past week, our CEO, Joshua Begbie, has represented GECA on the world stage to strengthen partnerships and drive sustainability forward! 🤝 We're excited to announce the signing of a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) between GECA and the Singapore Environment Council (SEC), recognising the Singapore Green Label and GECA ecolabel in both countries. As one of 17 initiatives under the Singapore-Australia Green Economy Agreement (GEA), the MRA focuses on cement, concrete products, paints, and coatings. This collaboration promotes green trade between nations and aims to reduce compliance costs for companies. The MRA was signed by Josh and Mr Cheang Kok Chung, Executive Director of SEC. Special thanks to Emily Follett, Australia's Deputy High Commissioner to Singapore, and other distinguished witnesses, including Tuang Liang Lim, Chief Government Sustainability Officer, and Zech Chan, PBM （陈劲瀚）, Chairman of SEC's Green Label Committee. 🎤 Josh also took the stage at the CII GreenPro Summit 2024 alongside Laura Gemmell, sharing insights on the Antipodean ecolabel experience. It's inspiring to see how lifecycle ecolabels such as GECA and Eco Choice Aotearoa reduce environmental impacts while supporting national industries. 🌍 At the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN) Annual General Meeting in Delhi, Josh is working alongside other lifecycle ecolabels from across the globe.
