  • GenWest’s Children’s Counselling program supports children and young people who have experienced family violence. It supports them to heal and recover from trauma, and breaks intergenerational cycles of violence. This vital program is currently experiencing unprecedented demand. Last year, we supported 281 children. However, there is a long waitlist of nearly 100 families waiting for support. We need to expand the program so we can support more children and reduce waiting times, but we need help to cover essential costs. Donating to this fundraiser will have a direct impact on the lives of children and young people in Melbourne’s west who are experiencing family violence. Your donation will help us cover essential costs such as: 🌞 Furnishing warm, inviting therapy rooms 🎨 Stocking creative tools and therapeutic materials like art supplies and sensory tools 🖥️ Installing necessary technology for tele-counselling and record-keeping ✨ Supporting operational costs during the transition to setting up a new counselling practice No contribution is too small; even the smallest gifts make a significant difference when combined with the generosity of others. While the holidays are a chance for us to gather with family and friends, they’re also one of the most high-risk times for people experiencing family violence. According to Victoria Police, the average daily number of incidents recorded increased by 33 per cent on Christmas Day in 2023. That's an average of one incident of family violence recorded every 4 minutes. The numbers are shocking - but we must remember, family violence is preventable. And we all have a role in creating change. Specialist frontline services like Safe Steps Family Violence Response Centre are here to support anyone impacted, every day of the year. Reach out to them, or connect with trusted people in your life. Together, as a community, we can work to end family and gender-based violence for good. Visit areyousafeathome.org.au for more.

Have you met Tess? 🏉 To mark this year's 16 Days of Activism, we’d like to share with you three projects that have inspired Hope in Action for those working to prevent and respond to family and gender-based violence. For our third story, we were lucky enough to chat with Tess Stewart-Moore from GenWest about Champions of the West, a partnership between GenWest, the Western Bulldogs Football Club, the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation, and Womens Health Grampians, with support from the Western Football Netball League. Champions of the West is a prevention program working to harness the influence of football in Melbourne’s west and improve the lives of women, girls and gender diverse people in sports culture. Champions of the West is just one of the many great projects in Victoria helping to end family and gender-based violence. This 16 Days of Activism, Safe and Equal would like to say thank you to everybody working to prevent and respond. We are all in this together, and the work we do matters. This video was filmed and produced on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong Boonwurrung people of the Kulin Nation. 🔗 Learn all about the Hope in Action campaign: https://lnkd.in/g7dRh2As #16DaysofActivism #16Days #HopeinAction
