THIS IS WHAT GIVES US HOPE! 🙌🌎 With the US pulling out of the Paris Agreement and other recent news causing lots of uncertainty about the future of our planet we figured it would be a good time to share what is keeping us hopeful! Share this video if you are inspired by these projects! I'm pro-nuclear. Growing up in Sweden, nuclear power was fundamental to our energy mix. When our plants were commissioned in the 1960s, it made sense. Renewable technology was expensive and less developed, and the Nordic winters aren't exactly known for abundant sunshine. But Australia's energy landscape is different. In a sun-drenched continent with vast wind resources, nuclear doesn't stack up. The latest CSIRO GenCost report warns that nuclear would cost 2-6 times more than renewables with storage, and the first plant wouldn't operate until at least 2040. As an LCA practitioner, I also object to "zero-emissions" claims about nuclear. The massive concrete and steel requirements, uranium mining, and waste storage all cause carbon emissions. It’s cleaner than coal, but not cleaner than wind and solar. Let's select the most cost-effective path for our unique context, and not delay climate action. Nuclear won't significantly contribute to achieving net zero by 2050. 🔗 Research from our independent experts: https://lnkd.in/gW5iAvKw
