In Aboriginal mythology Gunawirra means the invisible seed of all creation.

About us

Gunawirra aims to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mothers, carers, children, families and communities to break the cycle of hardship. Our programs focus on healing intergenerational trauma, trauma and grief through the influence of cultural identity, knowledge, and creativity. Our programs also use professional clinical care, treatment and support to improve lifestyle, health and education. At Gunawirra, we are aware how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have been cut off from access to aspects of their culture that might have helped them to heal from trauma. Gunawirra is predicated on two gifts from ancient Aboriginal peoples: The Dreaming and Healing Circles. We combine symbolic psychoanalytic thinking and other western therapeutic methods, with the ancient form of the The Dreaming and Healing Circle to help restore the internal world for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mothers and children. From The Dreaming and Healing Circles we gain ideas of how trauma was treated and the roots of how we treat trauma today. The animating spirit of all Gunawirra projects is creating a space in which to listen, a space where the voices of traumatised children, parents and teachers can be heard, in a way that gives those voices relevance.

🌟 Exciting Partnership Announcement! 🌟 We’re thrilled to see DUGA products making a difference! Our product range, created in collaboration with Aboriginal artists Trevor and Jason from Dalmarri, a Supply Nation-certified company, features meaningful artwork that reflects our vision of improving healthcare access for all communities. ✨ But that’s not all! We will donate 1% of Duga product sales to Gunawirra, an organisation that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander preschools across Australia. This donation will support an art therapist at the Jarjum preschool in Lismore where children are encouraged to express their feelings and experiences through engaging, hands-on art activities in a supportive environment. These activities incorporate local Aboriginal stories, totems, and symbols that strengthen their connection to culture. Livingstone and Gunawirra share a vision of empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and ensuring that all children have the opportunity to thrive. This partnership is a significant step towards achieving that goal. By partnering with Gunawirra, we are proudly contributing to their important work in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mothers and children through innovative programs like art therapy. Join us in making a difference! For more details on our partnership, visit https://lnkd.in/gxKRwH3Q 💖 #Livingstoneinternational #DUGA #Gunawirra #ArtForChange #FirstNations #Healthcare

Incu is proud to launch its latest partnership “With Friends” - a creative collaboration with close friends Gelato Messina and hake house of art. In celebration of International Women’s Day, the three partners have joined forces on a multi-faceted project that encompasses food, fashion and art. United in their passion for community, the project features each partner contributing their creative talents to raise money for Gunawirra-  a community-led organisation that works closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families, children and communities to reach their full potential. The profits from the sales of the Incu Collection items, and a limited edition gelato flavour - With Friends - now available at Gelato Messina, will go to Gunawirra. Samples of the delicious With Friends flavour - bush honey and macadamia with fudge and lemon myrtle cake - will also be available at our QV and Galeries Womens stores tomorrow Saturday 9th March. • In celebration of International Women’s Day, three partners have joined forces on a multi-faceted project that encompasses food, fashion and art. “With Friends” is a creative collaboration launched by Incu, together with Gelato Messina and Northern Beaches art gallery Hake House. This collaboration shines a spotlight on three local female artists, whose distinctive works have been artfully translated into the realm of clothing. Hake House’s founder Ash Holmes, along with artists Rachel Mackay and Alicia Bilyara Bennett, have created custom artworks, interpreted by the Incu Collection team, to create a capsule collection of three garments. The project features each partner contributing their creative talents to raise money for Gunawirra “In 2021 I was introduced to Gunawirra, I felt an instant connection to the incredible work they are doing. Since then it’s been an honour to communicate with the team, and read about projects they’ve been creating. In particular the art therapy programmes, which as an artist feels close to my heart - I truely believe in the positive impact creating art can have on our health and wellbeing” - Ash Holmes, Hake House founder and artist. To celebrate the collaboration, Gelato Messina have also created a special, limited-edition flavour curated by the Hake House artists. The “With Friends” gelato flavour - bush honey and macadamia gelato, with macadamia fudge and lemon myrtle cake - will go on sale at all 30 Gelato Messina outlets across Australia from Friday 8 March for one week, with profits from sales of the flavour going to Gunawirra. Gunawirra extends heartfelt thanks to Incu, Gelato Messina, and Hake House for their impactful collaboration in support of our programs! 🙏
