Our climate adaptation and leadership work went global at COP 29! 🌍🔥 This climate resilience and risk reduction video was featured at COP showing just some of the ways we are tackling these big issues through clever collaborative programs. Check out our climate adaptation Assistant Team Leader, Dr Diana Partridge (née Virkki) talking about how collaboration has strengthened our work to care for Country through the Township Fire Management Strategy on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island). This clever place-based project demonstrates how local communities, including First Nations Peoples and Traditional Owners, achieve more by working together to build resilience to climate change and reduce risks from extreme events - protecting both people and the environment. Huge thanks to NRM Regions Australia for featuring Healthy Land & Water in this great video which was funded and promoted by the Australian Government at COP 29. #ClimateResilience #RiskReduction #SouthEastQueensland #COP29 #UnitedNations #climatechange

Season’s greetings! We wanted to let you know our office is closed over the break, and we look forward to reopening on Monday 6 January. 🎄🌟 We also wanted to take the opportunity to thank all our partners, collaborators, landholders and local communities for an incredible year of support in strengthening the health and resilience of South East Queensland’s environment. From restoring riverbanks and reducing erosion, implementing solutions to increase biodiversity and habitats, to reducing sediment flow and educating landowners on the risk of bushfires, 2024 has been a huge year of delivering environmental change. Have a safe and happy holiday season. - From the Healthy Land & Water team! 🎄🌟

Can you spot a waterwise plant? Planting hardy, drought tolerant local native plants can save you water, time and money in the garden. Here are some of the telltale signs to look for: 🌿 Small, narrow leaves – less surface area means less water loss. 🕶️ Light coloured leaves – reflect light to keep plants cooler. 💪 Hairy or tough leaf surface – traps moisture. Check out our WaterWise House factsheet at https://lnkd.in/gfkp36bH for more tips and tricks. The Urban Stormwater and Erosion and Sediment Control Capacity Building program is funded through the Queensland Government’s ‘Investing in Our Environment for the Future Program’ and delivered by the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation. #waterwise #sustainable #savewater
