Nuturing hope and opportunity

About us

For over 100 years Hope Community Services has brought hope to thousands of people and communities facing the toughest challenges in Western Australia. From our beginnings pioneering alcohol support, today we offer hope across five key areas of Alcohol and Other Drugs, Family and Domestic Violence, Mental Health, Justice and Bail Services and a Rehabilitation centre at Hope Springs. We have over 150 dedicated staff and 70 volunteers delivering services and supporting marginalised people within communities as far north as Kununurra, as far south as Esperance and as far inland as Leonora and Meekatharra. We believe delivering hope requires a community-led approach, a collaborative mindset, and the dedication to walk with our clients wherever it takes us, for however long we are needed. We boast a clear strategic direction, strong governance, innovative mindset and a brilliant team from our Board, through Executive, to Management and Frontline staff.

  • “We try to get our men to understand that family and domestic violence brings fear to our families and communities and takes opportunity away from them.” When it comes to playing your part, conversations are key, according to Stephen Morrison, our Aboriginal Cultural Practice and Capability Manager. Stephen was instrumental in setting up our successful Men’s Bush Trips, which provide safe spaces for men to have these conversations. It’s important to note that not all men who attend these trips are perpetrators, but all of them have come together to build a support network for men in and around Kalgoorlie. “Our conversations are consistent throughout the year, whether we are talking with individual men or in groups settings,” he says. “The Men’s Bush Trips give us the chance to help our men understand FDV and look at bringing peace to troubled situations. It’s also about create opportunities for our families, directly as a result from the choices we make. “We play our part in stopping FDV by using the Men’s Bush Trips to educate FDV perpetrators and potential perpetrators, and ultimately support them to change their behaviour.” The Men’s Bush Trips are run as part of the intervention and prevention work undertaken by Mara Pirni Healing Place.

  • Last Wednesday night HOPE held our 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the beautiful Swan River (Derbarl Yerrigan) at Bell’s Function Centre, Barrack Street Jetty. A big thank you to HOPE member Ken Hayward, for kicking off the AGM with some incredibly inspiring didgeridoo playing and Welcome to Country. Thank you to all HOPE Members, Board and team who attended the event. It was an inspiring and enjoyable opportunity to connect with members past and present, and to hear and reflect on HOPE’s activities, impact on community and growth during the past financial year. • “It's a society issue," says Scott. "We all have a part to play in stopping FDV." Our second in our 16 Days post series, we are discussing with our staff how we can end violence against women and exploring how they believe they can contribute to creating a safer community for all. For Scott, it's all about having the conversations that matter. "I can create learning and understanding with those I interact with in my work and in the community... Even if we can't see it, statistics say it's a broader issue... It's not enough just to not do it, we need to stop seeing this as a women's issue and build our understanding. • When it rains it pours....literally! 🌧️ Last weeks Men’s Bush Trip in Leonora was meant to be a walk and talk, but the rain changed those plans. We didn't let that stop us though - we went to Waalitj instead and had a BBQ while our Suicide Prevention Coordinator, Justin, spoke with our men on the theme of "Breaking the silence of Loneliness." Keep an eye on our socials to see when our next Men's Bush Trip is! #Hope #community #CommunitySupport #CommunityServices #mensbushtrip #yarn #talk #menshealthmatters

  • Earlier this week HOPE hosted a farewell morning tea for our departing CEO, Merinda March. Merinda has made a significant contribution to HOPE in her four years as CEO and to the overall growth and reputation of the organisation during her tenure. From everyone at HOPE, we wish Merinda all the best with her next adventure and chapter, and we cherish the time we were able to have her with us here at HOPE. #Hope #community #CommunityServices #CommunitySupport #HumansofHope

  • “It is important to understand the signs, ask the tough questions and provide support for them to seek help from someone they do trust or professional services.” This 16 Days we are starting conversations with our team members about ending violence against women, and how they believe they can play their part in creating a safer community for everyone. For Matt in Esperance, it’s all about education. “Education is the key here, family domestic violence occurs across all relationships, this could be partners male or female, carers, brothers, cousins, children and the elderly. “It is important that we educate ourselves on about what FDV is and the types of relationship abuse, as well as what you can do to support someone that may be experiencing abuse.” #16DaysInWA #PlayYourPart #HopeCommunityServices

  • We have been down at the Perth Exhibition Centre for the Western Australian Mental Health Conference 2024. It's been incredible to meet other organisations in a similar field and share how we can help one another thrive. We have been asking people to write messages of HOPE on our Christmas baubles, which will then be taken back to the office to put on our office tree. • The Centre for Women's Safety and Wellbeing have launched a new campaign to help stop violence against women. Together, we BELIEVE in victim-survivors. Together, we BELIEVE in our specialist services. Together, we BELIEVE in change. What can you do to help? - Sign the pledge; we all need to work together to end family, domestic and sexual violence. - Write a letter; show your MP that you, their constituents, care about this human rights and public health issue. - Spread the word; download posts for social media and get the conversation going. To take these steps, and to learn more information about this campaign, head to: https://lnkd.in/gvYK9dmH Centre for Women's Safety and Wellbeing #Hope #community #CommunitySupport #CommunityServices #StopTheViolence #DontBeSilent #SpeakOut #16DaysinWA #PlayYourPart
