Leading medical research institute recognised internationally for discovery science and translational research
About us
Hudson Institute is a leading Australian medical research institute recognised internationally for discovery science and translational research. We strive to improve human health through groundbreaking, collaborative, medical research discoveries and the translation of these to real world impact. We are research leaders in five areas of medical need: 1. Inflammation – exploring how your body’s inflammatory response to infection and injury helps you to fight infectious diseases, like COVID-19, autoimmune diseases and cancer. We house Australia’s largest group of inflammation and immunity scientists and clinicians. 1. Reproductive health and pregnancy – answering the tough questions around infertility and pregnancy complications to reduce rates of infertility and stillbirth and to find new treatments for endometriosis and birth trauma. 2. Infant and child health – protecting vulnerable newborns from complications during birth, in the critical early weeks of life and exploring better treatments for childhood diseases. 4. Cancer – investigating how cancer starts developing, and exploring ways to better diagnose, detect and treat life-threatening cases. 5. Hormones and Health – improving the understanding of how your hormonal (endocrine) system maintains its delicate balance to improve your health and wellbeing. Our 443 scientists and students ask questions that push the boundaries of human knowledge to solve complex problems about human disease. Clinical experience based on patient need informs our research enquiry, and our close ties with medical staff and industry support the translation of our discoveries into new preventative approaches, therapies and devices for patient.

Hudson Institute's RNAte platform was represented recently at Advances in mRNA Science (AIMS) meeting in Melbourne. The meeting showcased the ground-breaking advancements in mRNA technology across Australia where our RNAte Chief Scientific Advisor, A/Prof Michael Gantier, presented his vital work on 3-mer oligo as antagonist in Toll-like Receptor pathways. The Victorian Paediatric Cancer Consortium (VPCC) recently visited two of our consortium partners in the Clayton precinct: Monash Health's Monash Children's Hospital and the Hudson Institute of Medical Research. With 8 consortium partners, our site visits are always a fantastic opportunity to strengthen our partnerships to accelerate research, innovation and collaboration for childhood cancer. VPCC CEO Dr Udani Reets and Communications and Development Manager Merrin Morrison met with many key staff, including Prof John Heath, Dr Michelle Martin, and Amanda St John from the Children’s Cancer Centre at Monash Children’s Hospital. They also caught up with Naama Neeman from the Hudson Institute. A huge thank you to our hosts for their warm welcome and for sharing their valuable insights. Together, we are working to revolutionise childhood cancer care. Some weeks back, I posted about how my daughter Raya was deciding what career path to take in the medical field. Well as part of that, she and her friend who is also a childhood cancer survivor, were interviewed on TV by the News atAustralian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). This is all to help raise awareness for Hudson Institute of Medical Research into #childhoodcancer and to raise money through an appeal. Please visit and donate if you are able to https://lnkd.in/gDWrCcUd Many thanks to Naama Neeman for this incredible opportunity offered to my daughter, Catherine Carmichael for making the time to preside over her work experience and Rob Clancy for the opportunity for Raya to share her story with Australia.

Got to dust off my rusty voice-over skills during the week to help tell the story of 2 inspiring girls and one of many fabulous Hudson Institute of Medical Research scientists. It's all about raising funds to advance lifesaving medical research. Please donate if you can.

#Leukaemia is the most common form of #ChildhoodCancer and the second greatest cause of cancer deaths in children. 💔 Those children who do survive, often experience life-long side effects from the highly toxic treatments used to treat the disease. We need better, safer cancer treatments for children. 🔬 Two remarkable teenagers, Tianna and Raya, fought and beat leukaemia, and are now determined to pursue a career in healthcare. They recently took part in work experience with Dr Catherine Carmichael, one of our childhood cancer researchers looking for new and improved treatments. Change for childhood cancer starts here at @Hudson_Research. ❤️🔥 Support our life saving research now. #Donate before 31 December, or read more about our research here: https://bit.ly/3AOTp76

Almost 10% of #Australian babies are born #Premature. 🚼 Rates of preterm birth are almost double among Aboriginal Australians and disadvantaged communities. Our researchers are investigating ways to prevent, reduce, and treat complications related to preterm birth. Our work aims to improve the function of underdeveloped organs like the lung and brain, ultimately improving the child's long-term prognosis.
