🚧🏗 We've made positive progress in our remediation efforts to protect the eroding riverbanks of the Williams River. The first package of stabilisation work kicked off in September with more than 1,400 sustainably sourced hardwood logs. Through a close collaboration with Transport for NSW and their construction partners, most of the logs have been sourced from the nearby M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace project. These logs, which might otherwise have been mulched or discarded as waste are now being used to protect the Williams River and create vital habitats for aquatic life. 🐟🌳🌊 Read more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/gDbj_q8v

🌱 Supporting Koalas One Tree at a Time 🐨 At Arborgreen, we’re proud to play a part in protecting Australia’s iconic wildlife. Recently, we worked with Port Stephens Koala Hospital on an incredible initiative to ensure a reliable supply of feed trees for their in-care koalas, particularly during challenging weather or droughts. Over 2000 Eucalyptus Robusta and Eucalyptus Tereticornis trees were urgently planted across two newly established plantations and a koala habitat area, thanks to access provided by Hunter Water at Grahamstown Dam. To safeguard these young trees, we supplied 2000 Mallee Mesh Kangaroo Guards and hardwood stakes to give them the best chance of thriving. The effort so far has seen 1600+ trees planted, with the remaining trees and habitat area set for completion by year’s end. While it’ll take about four years for these trees to be ready for harvesting, the project promises a brighter future for our koalas. A huge thank you to the Port Stephens Koala Hospital team for their hard work and dedication — it’s fantastic to contribute to such a meaningful cause. Together, we’re growing a greener future for generations to come! 🌳🐾 Learn more about the Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary and Hospital here ➡️https://lnkd.in/gAsDjYsW #KoalaConservation #WeLiveAndBreatheIt #SupportingWildlife #GreenerFuture #HunterWater #PortStephensKoalaHospital

During the last school holidays, the local community and our staff come together for a planting day near Grahamstown Dam. It was a huge success, getting 1,100 plants in the ground, including 272 grasses, 355 shrubs, and 523 trees. 🌱      These plants will have a lasting impact on the local environment by establishing koala habitat, supporting threatened bottle brush (callistemon linearifolius), and promoting native regeneration. 🐨     This project has been assisted by the NSW Government through its Environmental Trust.

  • Over the past few years, we've seen that our climate is becoming more unpredictable. Our refreshed water conservation campaign plays on the enduring Australian pastime of chatting about the weather. Whether you’re embracing the heat or complaining about the rain, every day is a good day to save water. ☀️⛅🌧️    We partnered with local agency Solvd Agency, who have leveraged a tech-driven approach for the campaign. By delivering weather-relevant messaging for our community, we share the importance of water saving habits – rain, hail or shine.      Keep your eyes and ears open over the next few months to catch the campaign on TV, radio, streaming services, social media and more.       To get a glimpse of the campaign and learn how you can save water, visit https://lnkd.in/gykcUiXv

  • Our values are at the core of everything we do. Last week, we brought our Learning value to life by hosting our first Learning Expo! 🎯 It was an engaging and collaborative morning for staff to discuss development opportunities, ready for their annual goal setting. Some key takeaways from the Expo were: 📚 Leveraging the 70:20:10 approach for learning on the job, socially, and through formal training 💻 Using short online content and courses to fit into busy schedules, including through our own Career and Development Hub 🔍 Exploring personal learning interests and how they can complement professional development If you’re looking for an organisation with opportunities that align with your goals and ambitions, learn more at https://lnkd.in/dExxGwc

  • It was great to be involved in the The Big Picture Fest over the weekend! Our historic Newcastle West 1 Wastewater Pump Station at Marketown received a colourful makeover with a thoughtfully designed mural. Designed by Aboriginal artist Jasmine Craciun, the mural covers the King Street side of the WWPS featuring an artwork celebrating our cultural connection to water and the Newcastle region. Last Friday, we had the pleasure to attend and present the Hunter Water Love Water Award as sponsors of the 2024 Hunter Business Awards, hosted by Business Hunter. 🏆   This Award recognises customers who have successfully implemented a Water Efficiency Management Pan (WEMP) to reduce their water usage, achieve cost savings and reduce demand on the region’s drinking water supply.    Congratulations to our finalists, Newcastle Private Hospital and Stockland Greenhills, and our winner, Baiada Poultry in Beresfield! 👏🏽 Through their WEMP, Baiada has saved over 200 million litres of water, the equivalent to the yearly water usage of over 1100 residential homes.
