Bonjour, hallo, hola, olá and hello! Grateful to welcome the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s international media delegation to the Illawarra this week! Journalists from around the world came to Australia for a demonstration of the country’s climate and energy leadership, and how local companies like Hysata can support energy security and the clean energy transition. We hosted journalists from Chile, Brazil, South Africa, Spain, and France – with quite a few visiting Australia for the first time! As an employer of nearly 100 of the brightest manufacturing and engineering minds in the Illawarra, we’re always willing to take the time to showcase the incredible talent and technology of this region to the world. The journalist’s got a tour of our facility and learnt about how our high-efficiency electrolyser works and its capabilities in decarbonising the hard-to-abate sectors. Thank you to DFAT for organising and Antoinette Slabbert, Armelle Bohinuest, Giuliana Miranda, Catalina Muñoz-Kappes, Tomás Vergara Pineda and Manuel Moncada for the visit! #GreenHydrogen #EfficiencyWins

Redefining the economics of green hydrogen.
About us
Our mission is to accelerate the world’s shift away from fossil fuels to green hydrogen by delivering the world’s best electrolyser. Hysata is developing a new type of hydrogen electrolyser. Our technology has the potential to significantly shift the economics of green hydrogen production, bringing $2/kg green hydrogen within reach, and accelerating the global transition to net zero emissions. Electrolysers use electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, and are the key technology for producing green hydrogen. Green hydrogen is widely acknowledged to be a crucial part of reaching net zero emissions globally, with the potential to meet up to 20% of energy demand in a net zero global economy. The Hysata electrolyser is based on breakthrough Australian technology developed by a team from the University of Wollongong’s ARC Centre of Excellence for Electromaterials Science, led by chemical catalysis and characterisation expert Professor Gerry Swiegers. We officially launched in June 2021, with $5 million in seed funding led by IP Group, with support from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC).

Hysata CEO Paul Barrett is back in The Australian’s Green List Top 100 for 2024! Paul spoke to Glen Norris in this annual feature about why he — and all of us at Hysata — are so passionate about green hydrogen and Australia’s potential to lead the world in clean energy. “In 25 years, it won’t be the petro-states dominating the world, but the electro-states. “Australia has a great opportunity to be one of those electro-states. It has all of the advantages – lots of land, water, solar and wind, plus the mineral wealth.” 2024 has been an incredible year for Hysata, with Australia’s largest climate tech Series B and major progress in scaling up our high-efficiency electrolyser (stay tuned on this one for some exciting news!). None of this could have been achieved without the efforts of our growing team determined to make a difference. Together, we’re committed to transforming the energy landscape and making green hydrogen a reality for the hard-to-abate sectors. We look forward to progressing our scale up in 2025. #GreenHydrogen #EfficiencyWins

Great catching up with Darren Miller and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) team at ARENA’s 5th annual Renewable Energy Showcase dinner last week! Hysata Chief Product Officer Tom Campey attended as an event alumni following his presentation last year on our ARENA-funded commercial demonstration project. ARENA has supported Hysata throughout our entire journey from R&D to commercialisation, which has helped drive the discovery and development of our capillary-fed electrolyser. Since inception, we have crowded in over AU$200 million in private investment, while ARENA has continued to be a positive supporter. We look forward to continuing to work with ARENA and the Australian Government as it progresses key policies that can help anchor our manufacturing onshore and build a Future Made in Australia. Enjoyable visit from the United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Investment, Ministry of Economy, Abu Dhabi Investment Office, Emirates Development Bank and Embassy last week! We had a great tour of our electrolyser manufacturing facility and discussion about the progress we’re making in commercialising our high efficiency electrolyser. The UAE is a hotbed of activity in the clean energy space, with ~US$8b of investment committed as part of their “Operation 300bn”, a national strategy to support the development of its industrial sector over the next five years, including establishing an attractive environment for the emerging hydrogen and renewable energy technology manufacturing industries. Representatives from the UAE have been on a global tour this year to find investments suited to their national goals, and we were glad to showcase the Illawarra and Australian innovation. We look forward to further discussions with the UAE’s Ministry of Investment as it continues to deliver against these important strategic goals. Thank you to Mr. Daniel Sellers, Ms. Fatima AlHajri, Ms. Adhra Al Mansoori, Mr. Jamie Levy and Mr. Abdulla Al Hamed for your visit! Great to see our techno-economic modeller, Denise Chan, sharing her expertise on a panel at the Australian Research Council’s Training Centre for the Global Hydrogen Economy at UNSW! Denise shared her insights with hydrogen academics including the importance of techno-economic modelling for scaling technology and commercialising innovation within fast-paced companies like Hysata. Her unique experience of modelling breakthrough technologies like Hysata’s ultra-high efficiency electrolyser offered new insights about how TE modelling can guide product development. Denise also explained why efficiency is so important for electrolysers, discussing the Levelised Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH) measurement, and how Hysata lowers LCOH to make green hydrogen more competitive. We're proud to have team members like Denise contributing to both Hysata's mission and the broader hydrogen community. Thank you, Denise, for representing Hysata and sharing your knowledge! #GreenHydrogen #EfficiencyWins
