The Federal Government’s proposed ban on social media is both dangerous to free speech and risks dooming a generation of Australia’s children to digital illiteracy. The joke of a less-than-24 hours senate inquiry into this ban received > 15000 public submissions, which one assumes will all go unread. Funny how “efficient” the Federal Government can be when it comes to taking power away from people. Less than a month between first floating the idea of this ban to enacting legislation to implement it … imagine if the cost of housing crisis was attacked with such velocity! Meanwhile the gambling advertisement ban had a full length committee, expert recommendations, months of input and has just been shelved as “too hard”. Follow the money … The lack of legacy media coverage of this disaster is ironically great evidence for why we need to protect online media from further government regulation. Thanks to Simon Thomsen for the distribution of this: https://lnkd.in/g8UegdpJ #socialmedia #entrepreneurship Chris Daniel Pasha Payar Nick Tash Murray Gokul William Damian Xavier

WE NEED TO COME TO TERMS WITH THE FACT THAT CHANGE HAS CHANGED! Consider that research shows in 1975 83% of the average US corporation’s assets were tangible assets, such as plant, machinery and buildings, while by 2015, 84% of corporate assets were intangible, such as licenses, patents and research. Clearly, that changes how we need to approach transformation. When your assets are tangible, change is about making strategic decisions, such as building factories, buying new equipment and so on. Yet when your assets are intangible, change is connected to people—what they believe, how they think and how they act. That’s a very different matter and we need to reexamine how we approach transformation and change. A simple truth is that humans form attachments to people, ideas and other things and, when those attachments are threatened we tend to lash out in ways that don’t reflect our best selves. As much as we may hate to admit it, we all do it from time to time. Anyone who has ever been married or part of a family knows that. That’s why anytime you ask people to change what they think or what they do, there will always be those who will work to undermine what you are trying to achieve in ways that are dishonest, underhanded and deceptive. Change today doesn't start with a slogan, or a kickoff meeting, but with identifying early apostles and empowering them to succeed so that they can bring in others who can bring in others still. A leader’s role is not to plan and direct action, but to inspire and empower belief.

ChatGPT is a toddler & unbelievably just turns 2 on 20 November topping 3 billion visits in September 2024, continuing as the most-used generative AI chatbot. The opportunities with AI are simply game changing for business, the public sector & third sector with AI exceeding all expectations & essentially doubling globally every 6 months. In just two years, the chatbot has changed the way we work, learn & imagine the future of AI. On 30th November, 2022, OpenAI released a free research preview of a chatbot called ChatGPT, initially intended to gather public feedback. It exploded. 5 days after its release, ChatGPT reached a million users and quickly began influencing universities & schools. By January 2023, ChatGPT reached 100 million monthly active users, making it the fastest-growing consumer application of all time. By the time GPT4 was released on 14th March, 2023, ChatGPT was a major cultural phenomenon. Even tech giants like Google, couldn’t find a way to respond without tripping over its own feet. Today, ChatGPT still remains the most popular GenAI app, representing 60% of monthly traffic compared to the entire top 50 AI-listed companies. It’s not even close. My sense is that in Australia whilst there is real interest in AI there is a disconnect with Executives and Directors with both "Cheer Leaders" & "Fear Leaders" emerging. Whilst 70% of Business Leaders think AI will change the way business value is created, only 30% have actually started. Without question, AI will be a cornerstone of innovation across all industries. From enhancing everyday experiences to driving ground breaking discoveries, the application of AI will continue to transform how we live and work. The proliferation of AI has made it possible for businesses & individuals alike to harness the power of this transformative tech. As we look ahead, AI will undoubtedly play an even more significant role in shaping the future across multiple sectors. In 2025, Australian Leaders need to tweak the nose of terror and personally jump in the deep end with a curious & experimental mindset. The cost of hopping on the wave is likely to be insignificant compared to the missing the wave. #NewAttitudesNewLatitudes #GrowthUnlocked #ChatGPT #ArtificalIntelligence #CuriousMinds iHelm Pty Ltd Above Board Advisory The Hon. Wow! Using your palm as your #OpalCard for public transport. Palm readers (and not the fortune-telling kind) are being trialled in China to make public transport more accessible, efficient and possibly even more hygienic for commuters. Not sure your thoughts, but this is both brilliant and terrifying in equal parts to me - #biometric data in action. Not sure if we might see this on Sydney Trains! IdeaSpies https://lnkd.in/gxyukbNf

What an honour to have this opportunity to present Catherine Ball today at our WomenLeaders by the Circle Executive luncheon so proudly hosted by Christine Parker of Westpac. In her truely unique style Catherine shared how women leaders are uniquely positioned to drive progress in AI, robotics, and sustainable innovation in the transformative era of the 5th Industrial Revolution. As a pioneer tackling global challenges—from food security to climate change—Catherine highlighted the critical roles of diversity, inclusion, and ethical leadership in shaping our future. She shared how technologies like AI and drones can revive local industries, create jobs, and enhance health, inspiring us all to take charge of the technological advances that will define tomorrow. Her insights were so thought provoking and powerful. We are so grateful for the robust and honest presentation and discussion that followed so expertly led by Christine. Thanks to all of you who joined us and of course to Westpac for so kindly hosting us. Bunnings says it will seek a review of the privacy commissioner’s determination that it breached the privacy of hundreds of thousands of customers using facial recognition technology (FRT). The company said it would go to the Administrative Review Tribunal, arguing the technology’s use appropriately balanced privacy with the need to protect staff against violent and organised crime. Between 2018 and 2021, Bunnings took the data of customers’ faces and compared them against a database of individuals the company had deemed a potential risk due to past crime or violent behaviour. “We know that some 70 per cent of incidents are caused by the same group of people,” Bunnings managing director Mike Schneider said. “While we can physically ban them from our stores, with thousands of daily visitors, it is virtually impossible to enforce these bans. FRT provided the fastest and most accurate way of identifying these individuals and quickly removing them from our stores.” Schneider said stores that participated in the trial had seen a clear reduction in violent incidents. Privacy commissioner Carly Kind said Bunnings had failed to comply with the Privacy Act, and ordered the company to not repeat or continue the practices, and destroy all the information collected via the facial recognition system. The company was not fined. “Facial recognition technology, and the surveillance it enables, has emerged as one of the most ethically challenging new technologies in recent years.” Story with Jessica Yun, video courtesy of Bunnings. The impact of the internet is mind blowing Over 60% of couples meet online in 2024 Before that it was mainly through introductions from friends and family. I love data and looking at stats and this one I found so interesting. That online dating didn’t exist for so long and out of nowhere it’s bringing huge numbers of people together. The internet, tech, online it’s completely changed our world. I remember starting out in digital marketing 20 years ago. Most of the platforms that are now on every media plan didn’t exist and tracking was rudimentary. Credit James Eagle and The world in maps on insta
