We are thrilled that our Global Head of Asset Management Danny Elia has been recognised as one of Australia’s Top 100 energy players in The Australian’s Green List 2024. The list was judged by industry leaders and recognises the people they believe are making a difference as Australia decarbonises the economy. Danny has been recognised as a leader in the bioenergy sector for his work to establish a partnership with GrainCorp and Ampol to explore the establishment of an integrated renewable fuels industry in Australia. As a major investor in airports, we believe we have an important role to play in facilitating cleaner flying. This builds on the considerable work our airports have already undertaken to support decarbonisation efforts across terminals, ground operations and commercial precincts. As well as helping establish a new industry that has the potential to create new jobs, economic opportunity and deliver for the retirement savings of working people. IFM Investors was pleased to be represented at #COP29Azerbaijan by our Chief Strategy Officer Luba Nikulina and Associate Director, Stakeholder Relations Sarah Broadbent, and to connect with Australia’s Minister for Climate Change and Energy, the Hon Chris Bowen MP. Climate action will require unprecedented levels of investment and new ways to mobilise public and private capital. IFM is working actively with governments on policies to enable investment that delivers appropriate risk-adjusted returns to investors and working people’s retirement savings. Our Australian Energy Transition Blueprint, Super-powering the energy transition: A policy blueprint to facilitate superannuation investment outlines the policies to accelerate investment and was released last year with eight of Australia’s largest profit-to-member super investors representing more than $1 trillion of working people’s retirement savings. And just last month IFM released Mobilising pension capital for net zero: a policy blueprint for the UK with Australian and UK pension funds, highlighting policies to enable accelerated pension fund investment in the UK’s energy transition. It is this type of collaboration that will help enable investment at the scale required for climate action, and to deliver appropriate risk-adjusted returns to IFM’s investors and working people’s retirement savings. The IFM team have returned from #ParisInfraweek, following back-to-back discussions on the climate challenges we face today – as well as the investment strategies and adaptation solutions that will need to be deployed to overcome them. David Cooper and Lucie Mixeras joined Guillaume Camus as he spoke on “Transitioning from brown to green: addressing mitigation and adaptation.” Guillaume shares his key highlights below, noting that long-term infrastructure investors have a critical role to play as we continue to decarbonise and adapt together.
It was a pleasure to participate to the #ParisInfraweek, together with my IFM colleagues David Cooper and Lucie Mixeras. On the inaugural day, I joined a discussion on “Transitioning from brown to green: addressing mitigation and adaptation”. We discussed the challenges ahead: ◾ Climate change mitigation through the reduction of carbon emissions is a critical and collective challenge ◾ However as climate change progresses, adaptation is also becoming increasingly essential ◾ Adaptation projects are not generating cash flows, but instead deliver value by reducing potential losses ◾ Hence benefits are difficult to measure and the funding gap is growing But also how they are being tackled: ✅ Dedicated investment strategies now channel large amounts of capital towards attractive decarbonisation investments ✅ Numerous solutions to increase infrastructure asset resilience already exist – from preventive maintenance to structural investments ✅ Adaptation plans have become an integral part of investment processes, in addition to mitigation Bottom line – long-term infrastructure investors have a critical role to play as we continue to decarbonise and adapt. Thanks to Paris Europlace for hosting another great event. #IFMInvestors #decarbonisation #mitigation #adaptation #infrastructure #investment
