AWARD AND RECOGNITION | round of applause to the Inspector-General of Water Compliances Assistant Director Compliance Monitoring, Nathalie Whitby, who was awarded the Executive Medal. The Executive Medal, named in honour of the Deputy Inspector-General of Water Compliance Daniel Blacker, is presented on a discretionary basis to an IGWC staff member who has gone above and beyond for the team. “I am very touched by my special award, the weight of the meaning of it has grown as the surprise/shock has subsided,” Nat told her colleagues. “It’s also a really nice signifier to keep doing what I am doing and to continue to live by one of my mottos, ‘the grass is greener where you water it’.” Nat organises a fortnightly ‘coffee roulette’ between IGWC staff, a scheduled yet casual catch up between colleagues to build awareness and connection across geographically dispersed teams. Recently, Nat launched an IGWC donation drive with Lifeblood, one of the many awareness and wellbeing initiatives she regularly shares with the team. #waterregulation #watercompliance #staff #awards #donateblood #awardwinning #aps #publicservice #recognition #staff #values #conduct #service

AWARD AND RECOGNITION | congratulations to the Inspector-General of Water Compliance Director Strategy and Governance, Holly Young, who received the peer nominated Mick Keelty Award. The Mick Keelty Award is for contribution and performance; a reflection of the first Interim Inspector-General (originally Northern Basin Commissioner) who diligently fought to have the IGWC office established, supported by legislation, and appropriately structured. The Inspector-General of Water Compliance, the Hon. Troy Grant, gave evidence at today’s Supplementary Budget Estimates at Parliament House, Canberra. “From my first day in this role, Basin communities have heard me repeat the mantra of the need to improve and build trust and confidence in water management and governments across the Murray-Darling Basin,” said Troy in his opening statement. “They are now very much seeing and will continue to see this in action. Lawful, visible, better - that's what we're all about. “My team and I continue to be visible and out and about ensuring the Australian community can see and understand outcomes in Basin water management, so they can better understand the role of the independent Inspector-General and be confident there is appropriate oversight of the integrity of Basin water management. “There is no substitute to being out and about in the Basin, talking with people and importantly hearing from them, showing them that they have been heard. “I am committed to listening, hearing and acting independently wherever necessary, equally and without fear or favour. “I am pursuing continuous improvement in the performance of Basin water managers to embed integrity, transparency and accountability in the delivery of the Basin Plan and its outcomes.” Also present at today’s hearing, the IGWC’s recently expanded Executive team, including Deputy Inspector-General Daniel Blacker, (A/g) General Counsel Peter Lyons, (A/g) Assistant Inspector-General Regulation Tara Schalk and (A/g) Assistant Inspector-General Oversight Sheridan de Kruiff. Senators asked questions about the IGWC’s published audit on Controls Supporting Compliance with the Basin Plan and recently launched inquiry into the northern Basin Toolkit. Further question topics included investigations, water education and roles.
