It consists of members who live or work in the local government areas of Cockburn, Fremantle and Melville, Western Australia. We believe the only way to effect large-scale change is by mobilising the collective resources of our community. Our vision is for all individuals and families in the South West Metropolitan region to be provided with the opportunity to achieve their full potential, participating effectively in all areas of life and living. Our four key pillars: • Youth • Community • Housing and Homelessness • Mental Health We are committed to improving the social, cultural and economic outcomes of the community, achieving a more effected and coordinated approach to decision making, working in partnership to deliver better outcomes and maximising use of limited resources.

It is such a privilege to be part of these events. Last year, Stephen Michael Foundation Ltd. brought this fantastic idea to Imagined Futures. Our partners rallied together, pooling our collective resources to bring it to life. Following the success of the first carnival, the SMF took the reins this year, with Imagined Futures having a much lighter touch, though we are delighted to remain involved. Positive connection to culture is a crucial component of every student’s schooling experience. However, accessing programs that celebrate Aboriginal culture in a fun and engaging way can be challenging for schools. The carnivals, along with the preparatory programs in schools, connect schools to community resources, enabling them to celebrate Aboriginal culture on a scale that no single school could achieve alone. In addition to our partnership with the SMF on the Culture Through Sport Carnival over the past two years, they have also provided in-kind support for our Connecting Aboriginal Children in Care to family, community, and culture events. Needless to say, the kids love them. Brendon Ah Chee Paul Mugambwa
Young people from across Walyalup gathered at Fremantle Oval to engage in activities aimed at fostering a deep and lasting appreciation for the world’s oldest continuing culture. The SMF Culture Through Sport Carnival began with a Welcome to Country led by Robyn Collard and her grandsons. Across the day, participants watched a performance of traditional dances by the Wadumbah Dance Group, ate traditional food, took part in an art and cultural awareness session with Bruce and Linda Loo, and competed in 4 traditional Aboriginal games. A special thank you to the National Indigenous Australians Agency for their generous contribution, which made this event possible. We would also like to acknowledge the Mayor of Fremantle Hannah Fitzhardinge GAICD ,Deputy Mayor of Cockburn Chontelle Stone, headspace, Palmerston Association, Neami National, City of Fremantle, City of Cockburn,Healthway , and Imagined Futures for their support in bringing this event to fruition. 📹: Hueman Media, RNF Studios

The Financial Wellbeing Collective has released it's Financial Wellbeing in WA Snapshot 2024 (link in comments). It features never published before stats and key findings, the Snapshot illuminates who in our community is doing it toughest with insight into the contributors affecting poor financial wellbeing. While hardship becomes more widespread in our community, lack of awareness of the free services available remains a key barrier for accessing help, particularly for the growing number of families and individuals experiencing financial hardship for the first time. Given this we are delighted to partner with the FWC our Where is the door? project which aims to connect people living in our local area to the right help at the right time. The wonderful services offered by the FWC are a core part of this. Check out the Where is the door? website for more info - www.whereisthedoor.org.au #costofliving #accesstoservices #collaboration

Due to popular demand, Imagined Futures held a second “Exploring Burnout and Activating Self-Care” workshop this week. This time, 20 frontline workers from 9 different agencies attended. The training responded to the increased stress reported by frontline workers who are supporting more people needing assistance in response to rising costs of living and other mounting pressures. Romy Pritchard from RDP Enterprise Solutions led this interactive session, focusing on understanding stress, compassion fatigue, and burnout. The workshop covered recognizing signs and symptoms and exploring prevention strategies such as setting boundaries and practicing self-care. The Imagined Futures Community of Practice, a group of frontline workers from the South West Metropolitan region, facilitated this training. They regularly come together to identify gaps in service delivery in the human services sector and provide opportunities to build the capacity of frontline workers. A big thank you to Neami National for funding the training and the City of Fremantle for providing the venue and morning tea. Some comments from participants: · “Great presentation that was delivered well.” · “Strongly suggesting my workplace runs this for everyone.” · “I was surprised this was so good. Not the same old chestnut.” #whereisthedoor #collaboration #self-care

Imagined Futures is proud to announce we're partnering with the Western Australian Alliance to End Homelessness to end rough sleeping in Fremantle. Launching our prospectus in front of a group of incredible national and international experts at the Australian Zero Homelessness Summit yesterday, the Fremantle Zero Project seeks to apply the strength, expertise, resources and knowledge of the organisations already working in our region to drive systems-wide change and ensure that any experience of homelessness in our community is rare, brief and one-off. We have the right components and conditions in place to achieve our goal. Now, we need your help to make it a reality. Go here to learn more --> https://lnkd.in/g-mC7Hxs

Two years, seven connection events, countless partners, and more children attending than ever before. It’s hard to put into words the impact of the Connecting Aboriginal Children in Care project. Initiated by local Aboriginal Practice Leaders, Brenda van der Hor and Stephen Loo, this project creates invaluable opportunities for children in care to build and maintain relationships with their families, culture, and community. While attending a single event offers benefits, it’s the repeated participation over time that truly deepens these connections and amplifies the positive outcomes. The latest event - Kambarang Connections Day - saw the highest attendance of children and family members/carers yet, as word of mouth continues to spread. Uncle Gerrard welcomed the children and their families to country, Binar Futures painted faces and performed dances and had lots of the children on their feet being Yongkas (kangaroos) and Wetjs (emus), and Create Foundation had the kids rolling around the field playing bubble soccer. The City of Cockburn were once again generous hosts. Department of Communities WA; Neami National; City of Cockburn; CREATE Foundation #connectiontoculture; #collaboration; #strongspiritstrongmind

Where is the door? - a new community resource 🏘 Imagined Futures Where is the door? project is helping both community members and services providers to navigate services in Cockburn, Fremantle and Melville. With rising living costs, many people are seeking support for the first time and don’t know where to start. Yet the earlier you seek help, the more options you have, and the easier it is to prevent problems from worsening. This project connects people to local free and low-cost services, including mental health, family and domestic violence, financial wellbeing, and more. Imagined Futures supports frontline workers to tackle burnout! This week, the Imagined Futures Community of Practice hosted a workshop, Exploring Burnout and Activating Self-Care, for frontline workers in the South West Metro region. This interactive training session, led by RDP Enterprise Solutions, focused on understanding stress, compassion fatigue and burnout, including recognising signs and symptoms and exploring prevention strategies such as boundaries and self-care. This training was in response to increased pressure reported by frontline workers who are supporting more and more people needing assistance with the increasing costs of living. Thank you to Neami National, who funded the training, and the City of Melville for providing the venue. We got some great feedback from our 19 participants, who attended from ten different organisations including local government and community agencies. “This training was well presented and resourceful. I leave more confident about how to set and keep my boundaries in my personal and work life.” “Great training with very useful tools and techniques.” “Was useful to stop and reflect on my own behaviour and that of people I work with and my family and friends.” #ImaginedFutures #CommunityConnectors #CommunityEngagement
