    Simplifying Sales Comp Operations

    Sales reps will always take the path of least resistance. If you set aggressive sales targets without guardrails, they’ll do whatever it takes to hit them—deep discounts, freebies, overpromises. It happens all the time. Without a compensation plan that accounts for both revenue and profitability, businesses end up with: 🔴 Lower margins from excessive discounting 🔴 Overextended service teams struggling to deliver unrealistic promises 🔴 Products thrown in as "Add-Ons" So, how do you fix it? ✅ Thresholds on discounts—Go beyond a certain point, and the commission drops. ✅ Quota balancing—Tie high-revenue, low-margin products to higher-margin offerings. ✅ Accountability for promises—If an implementation timeline is unrealistic, build in penalties or incentives tied to customer customer "Go-Live" dates or other milestone.
