CALLING FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST BOARD POSITIONS OPEN Call for Expressions of Interest to join the Board of Impact for Women Background Since 2006 Impact for Women has been making a difference to Victorian women and children fleeing extreme violence at home. Through our activities we provide badly needed essentials together with the knowledge that someone cares. Beginning in a suburban living room, Impact now supports more than 6,000 women and children a year, made possible by thousands of volunteers. Board Positions As the Impact’s AGM approaches we are seeking to fill some vacant positions on its Board and we are inviting expressions of interest. Impact is seeking passionate and committed Board Directors to help steer the organisation towards future success and growth. Ideally the Board is looking for candidates with a specialist background in partnerships, fundraising and grant-writing, but we are open to all interested parties who wish to contribute towards the future of this wonderful organisation. There are three available positions on the Board. Previous Board experience would be an advantage but is not essential the Board meets at least five times a year and sub-committees meet more often, at least in the months between Board meetings. Board members are expected to join a sub-committee appropriate to their skills, Impact is currently a completely volunteer led and driven organisation, therefore every Board Member is expected to make an active as well as an intellectual contribution. We estimate that the time required is 10-15 hours per month. Interested? Narre Warren South – Women’s Pain Forum Impact for Women was invited to attend an important Women’s Pain Forum by Gary Maas MP with special guest, the Hon Mary-Anne Thomas MP, Minister for Heath. On behalf of Impact we asked our dedicated long term volunteer Paulien George to attend and represent our organisation. The Forum was facilitated by Kit McMahon from Women’s Health in the South East (WHISE). Kit ran a workshop on the issues facing women in the area which provided information and shared experiences for their submission to the Inquiry into Women’s Pain. Research was recently conducted by the Victorian Women’s Health Survey that reiterated what many are all too familiar with – their pain is real, and often overlooked. The survey found that four in 10 Victorian women suffer from a chronic health condition, and one in three have been left feeling unheard by dismissive health practitioners. It also found that half of the participants were suffering with pain connected to their period, impacting their health and wellbeing. The Inquiry into Women’s Pain will help form the basis of recommendations to improve services and treatment of women’s pain in Victoria.
