To our dear friends and dedicated book buyers over the past 35 years, this is our final farewell. The business will be relocated to Canberra under new ownership. Jim & Jules Phillipps will be your new point of contact, once the books have settled in their new home. You could say, they wholeheartedly have our imprimatur to carry on the traditions and breathe new life into Imprimatur Books. There will be a transition period during the handover, so please be patient. I must admit I will miss the finding and selling of rare gems such as the Idriess Guerilla Series, the three volumes of Butler’s WW1 medical record and many of the Special Forces titles which has been my pleasure to handle over the years. But… we move on. We will continue to work on the new book projects we have in the works so far: · A prequel to TWO RANKS ON THE ROAD called HAIL MARY, THE CREEKS’ UP · A biography of PETER BADCOE, VC titled CRAZY BRAVE · WILD MEN OF THE AUSTRALIAN SAS - very much in the preliminary ideas department. If you would like to keep in touch we have a new website for Michael (Mick) Malone where I will be jotting down my musings on the state of the world, the weather in WA, and updates on the new book projects. About us
A repository of unparalleled knowledge and collection of quality military books for the discerning collector. Imprimatur Books is an online bookstore established in 1992, home to old and rare military history books. We specialise in Australian Unit histories (WWI, WW2 & Vietnam) and Special Forces. There is a wide selection of books documenting military history from all conflicts dating from the Napoleonic era through to current engagements. An especially wide collection of WW1 titles in particular Gallipoli. You can search by category or through the current catalogue. Because of the rarity of most of the books they are one-offs, once gone into a private collection they are rarely seen again. We've got a limited collector’s edition of 'Two Ranks on the Road' by Michael (Mick) Malone, which is case bound in a dust wrapper. They're numbered and signed - only 34 of the 50 copies remain. Mick's memoir explains the life of a simple soldier and what can be achieved through hard work and persistence. As he writes of his 30 years of service across the 43 chapters, there's also lots of old photos included, dug from the archives! Imprimatur Books has been a hard but pleasant slog for 32 years! It certainly kept me focused – as did Covid. The last few years of isolation led me to my new vocation - full-time writer. ‘Two Ranks on the Road’ is my 4th title and it seems a fitting way to sign off from Imprimatur, with my 5th and 6th books in the pipeline. For those who would like to keep up-to-date with my work, you can find me over at: https://lnkd.in/gxGeBvtA Michael (Mick) Malone

In case you missed the news… We’re handing over Imprimatur Books into the safe hands of Jim & Julie Phillipps. Jim says: “I first met Mick & Jo in my first year in SAS in 1993, and they were incredibly kind to myself, and the other single fellas as we scrounged around for a meal and an escape from regimental life... About 2 years ago we were having dinner and I asked what he was doing with Imprimatur moving forward, and after very little thought, I jumped at the opportunity to take the baton from them… I have read far more military books since I left the Army than I ever did in, which was not hard, and I continue to enjoy reading and learning. Mick & Jo will give me a shortened apprenticeship and we will undertake a handover over in the next few months…” Read more from Jim & Julie in our latest catalogue: https://bit.ly/4bKBBGV

Have a read of the last catalogue (#273) from the Malone’s. Imprimatur Books will be handed over to the safe hands of Jim and Julie Phillipps and will set up in Canberra in the coming months. We have included a note from Jim in this catalogue. It’s been a hard but pleasant slog for 32 years. We’ve enjoyed it immensely, meeting some amazing people, and had huge satisfaction in connecting collectors and students of history with often rare and extraordinary books – some of which are in this final catalogue: https://bit.ly/4bKBBGV #militarybooks #militaryhistory #bookshop #rarebooks

The launch of my book ‘TWO RANKS ON THE ROAD’ on Sunday night was a huge success and I have the following people to thank. Dr Toby Malone, PhD. Who edited the work with forensic accuracy and developed a masterful index that really compliments my hard work. Jo Malone who published the book, dotting the Is and crossing the Ts. Her handle on the endless logistics is a joy to behold. Georgia Malone, who provided a much appreciated reader perspective, to add life to my words. Rachel Davison who has to be the best PR person in town. She was/is responsible for all the newspaper articles that appeared last weekend. The West and the Australian for giving us such a great spread in the weekend papers! Dr Grant Walsh PhD who MC’d the launch. Wally is a remarkable person and was very kind to me with his probing questions. To the many critical readers who took the time to read my drafts and offer advice, corrections and feedback on the unfinished work. Your insight has made Two Ranks a better book. To Steve and Marvi at Data Documents for your patience and attention to detail. Julian Whittaker who provided me with high quality bookmarks for the launch. Bill and Lou, proprietors of Boffins Books for trusting in my story and giving the book a such a great profile. And for providing the excellent venue for the launch. Mick

“This hugely entertaining and moving account of Mick’s life and time in the Special Air Service before, during and after the Vietnam War is [...] filled with astonishing detail [...] it should take its rightful place among the important national records, not only of the man, but of Australia at war and peace.” Thanks to Tim Ryan, Chairman of Consulum for reading an advance copy of 'Two Ranks on the Road: 35 Years of Australian Special Forces Service'. There’s still some tickets available to the book launch if you’re in Perth: https://bit.ly/3TdZGyn #VietnamWar #specialforces #militaryhistory #BookLaunch
