In 2024, Dr Jacob Prehn received the John Mulvaney Fellowship to fund the first-ever analysis of the Mayi Kuwaya Study of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander wellbeing, focusing exclusively on how Indigenous men seek healthcare, and how they’d like to access it. Passionate about Indigenous Data Governance and Sovereignty, Jacob is currently the Director of Research, Evaluation, and Data Governance with the Treaty Authority in Victoria. Thanks Paul Stewart and Craig Ritchie for taking the time to visit our ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures office in Meanjin this week. It was wonderful to spend time together with you both yarning about all things Indigenous Research and Capacity Building. We are proud to have Lowitja Institute as a partner of the Centre and we look forward to our continuing partnership and collaboration into the future.

Today on the 17th anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations in 2008, we remember and reflect on its significance. The formidable collective voice and strength of leaders such as our co-patrons, the late Dr Lowitja O’Donoghue and Pat Anderson AO, led to this historic moment. In their honour, we continue to advocate for the full and immediate implementation of the ‘Bringing them Home’ report recommendations, for the health and healing of Stolen Generations survivors and their families, now and into the future. Welcome Pekeri Ruska! Pekeri is a Goenpul woman from North Stradbroke Island and commences as a Research Fellow in the ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures. She has recently submitted her thesis titled "Sovereignty Never Ceded: Quandamooka Embodied Acts of Sovereignty", which highlighted Indigenous sovereignty in practice showing the continuous and ongoing exercise of Indigenous sovereignty by Quandamooka people.
