Industrial Relations Society of New South Wales reposted this
As one of the Society’s Vice Presidents I am very excited to welcome our members for this evening’s “Meet the Commission” event this evening - many thanks to Joe Murphy, Hayden Lewis, Christa Lenard and Bill Steenson in getting this event off the ground at this unique and very special venue this year!

It has been a very busy few months for the Industrial Relations Society of New South Wales. This evening we welcome our members (who were lucky enough to secure a spot) to our popular and annual "Meet the Commission" event. This year we have been very fortunate to secure the venue of 47 Bridge Street for this evening's event (which will be familiar to many!). We are honoured to co-host this year's event with the members of the newly formed Industrial Court, His Honour Justice Taylor, and their Honours Justices Paingakulam and Chin. Stay tuned for more exciting IRSNSW events to register for - as we round off a year of successful and engaging events for 2024!

𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 The Industrial Relations Society of NSW (IRSNSW) is delighted to launch its first short film, ‘Building Bridges’, which explores the origins of the Society, its membership, activities, challenges and future. This documentary is the key outcome of an oral history project involving interviews with 12 long-serving senior members including past presidents of the society, ALERA and the International Labour and Employment Relations Association (ILERA) and former editors of the Journal of Industrial Relations. Overseen by former Society president Jonathan Hamberger, the project used a whole-of-life oral history approach. Interviewees were asked about their involvement with the Society and industrial relations in the context of a life lived. This approach saw them talk about the early influences that led them to industrial relations, their various career experiences and the value of membership with the IRSNSW. “𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘸𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘯𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘙𝘚𝘕𝘚𝘞’𝘴 𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘮 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘔𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘺. IRSNSW extends its gratitude to ALERA for their generous grant, which contributed to the production of these videos. The documentary and all 12 interviews are available on the society’s new YouTube channel - (https://lnkd.in/gsFmWxbj). It is sure to be of interest to current and potential members as well as the broader industrial relations community. The Industrial Relations Society of New South Wales congratulates Ingmar Taylor SC, David Chin SC and Jane Paingakulam on their appointments to the Industrial Relations Commission and the Industrial Court of NSW. The NSW Industrial Relations Commission has long had a judicial function, despite this not being the case in recent years. The Industrial Court has played a significant part in the history of NSW industrial relations which is often credited (together with its predecessors) as the longest continually operating arbiter of industrial justice in the world, dating back to the establishment of the Court of Arbitration in 1902! “The appointments of Ingmar Taylor SC as President, David Chin SC as Vice President and Jane Paingakulam as Deputy President, each as Judges of the Industrial Court represents another significant moment in this fabulous history.” – Christa Lenard, President of the IRS NSW. #industrialrelations
