I'm very pleased to receive Dr Nadia Court’s visit to Innofocus Photonics Technology Pty Ltd’s Nano Manufacturing Plant (#NMP) in Melbourne in the morning and have an in-depth exchange of views on the #nanofabrication technologies, R&D collaborations and industrial applications of miniature photonics devices, exploring effective ways to enrich and improve the #semiconductors and #photonics industry community and the future #quantum tech #ecosystem in Australia. A number of deep #innovation opportunities have been identified in the fabrication of high performance ultrafast #FBG #sensing devices, the fabrication of complex optical #waveguide devices, the fabrication of photonics lantern (optical bridge) devices, and 3D in-situ refractive index #characterisation and #metrology that could better bring together Australian research and industry strengths. Dr Nadia is the inaugural Director of the Semiconductor Sector Service Bureau (S3B). Until recently, Nadia was the Technical Director of Research and Prototype Foundry, the University of Sydney micro- and nano-fabrication facility and the Sydney Hub of the NSW Node of The Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF). The S3B led by Dr Nadia has just successfully organised the inaugural Semiconductor Australia 2024 summit in Sydney, which brought together the government sectors, investors, research institutes, innovation leaders, advanced manufacturing companies, vertical application industries, technology media and other parties to collectively discuss and accelerate the development of a strategic approach and action plan for building semiconductor industry capacity suitable for Australia. Australia's Chief Scientist Dr Cathy Foley presented a keynote address at Semiconductor Australia 2024 organised by Semiconductor Sector Service Bureau (S3B), discussing the government’s roadmap to support Australian tech companies bridge the gap between R&D and commercialisation. Dr Foley spoke at length about Australia’s prowess in #semiconductors, #photonics, and #quantum the trifecta of cutting-edge technology, and her vision to see Australia boost its sovereign capability and diversity the nation’s industry and economy. “Of the seven critical technologies recently identified by the federal government, all are supported either directly (for example quantum tech and advanced ICT) or indirectly (biotechnologies, AI technologies) by photonics,” said Dr Simon Poole AO on the InnovationAus.com #CapabilityPapers.
