Up to nine NSW startups will gain access to these hubs, while three companies from each of these countries will be hosted at the International Landing Pad in the Sydney Startup Hub, which offers six months of free desk space for overseas companies entering the Australian market. The program targets startups in digital technology, clean economy, defense, MedTech, life sciences, and AgriFood sectors. The initiative is part of a broader effort by the NSW government to support innovation, increase investment, and boost exports, with the program intended to help NSW startups scale and build critical international relationships. A recent analysis by the NSW Innovation and Productivity Council’s 2024 Scorecard highlights New South Wales as a leader in harnessing innovation, outperforming other Australian states in creating startups and spinouts from universities and research institutes, and showing strong economic and productivity growth. However, there remains room for improvement on the international stage. Anoulack Chanthivong, the Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology, emphasized the importance of innovation in tackling significant challenges and revitalizing the manufacturing sector in NSW. The ongoing development of the NSW Government's Innovation Blueprint aims to enhance collaboration between businesses, universities, and the government for a greater collective impact. https://lnkd.in/gQ9Jtnnj

The latest analysis by the NSW Innovation and Productivity Council reveals that New South Wales is a national leader in innovation, excelling in startup creation from universities and research institutes, and venture capital investment as a share of GSP. The 2024 Scorecard, which benchmarks NSW against other regions globally and domestically, shows strong economic and productivity growth compared to other Australian states but notes the potential for improvement in productivity on an international scale. The NSW Government is actively working on an Innovation Blueprint to enhance collaboration among businesses, universities, and the government. This strategy aims to boost the state's innovation sector by capitalising on its highly educated workforce, strong university research outputs, and robust startup ecosystem supported by significant venture capital. Officials emphasise the need for a cohesive approach to foster innovation, which is deemed crucial for creating future jobs and addressing significant challenges, including revitalizing manufacturing in NSW. The state's innovation strategy will leverage insights from the 2024 Scorecard to set a clear strategic direction and ensure effective collaboration within the innovation ecosystem. https://lnkd.in/gSpeNUtU

Exciting news just in. A consortium of six Sydney-based investors is pioneering Australia's first exclusive membership club tailored for tech entrepreneurs, their investors, and supporters. Dubbed "The Pillars," this innovative hub will command a $20,000 annual membership fee. The initiative is spearheaded by notable industry leaders including Bradley Delamare, CEO of Tank Stream Labs, and Matthew Browne, Managing Partner at Black Nova Venture Capital. The team is investing $10 million to transform the historic 11 Barrack Street in central Sydney into a state-of-the-art facility set to open next year. This iconic building, which first opened its doors in 1849 as a home for the Commonwealth Bank and later housed the Property Council of Australia for over five decades, will undergo a comprehensive renovation to accommodate the club. Spanning all four floors, The Pillars aims to provide a unique gathering space that transcends the typical confines of private offices and hotel lobbies, offering a dedicated environment where tech leaders can connect, collaborate, and innovate. https://lnkd.in/gX8VUE25

Australia greenlights the world's 'largest' solar hub Sydney's SunCable has received federal approval for the Australian part of its Australia-Asia Power Link (AAPowerLink) project, following environmental clearances from both the Commonwealth and Northern Territory governments. The project, aimed at supplying green electricity to both local and international markets, notably Singapore, has passed extensive assessments and stakeholder consultations under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC). The approval marks a significant milestone, positioning AAPowerLink as one of the largest energy projects sanctioned under the EPBC Act. The project will stretch approximately 2,000km and involves substantial community and regulatory engagement in the Northern Territory, Singapore, and Indonesia. It promises substantial economic benefits, including creating over 6,800 jobs annually during construction and delivering more than $20 billion in economic value over its first 35 years of operation. A Final Investment Decision is expected by 2027, with operations starting in the early 2030s. more here 👉https://lnkd.in/gGqwC6Gd
