🤩 We are finishing 2024 on a high! Earlier this week we snuck in our first full day face-to-face co-design workshop. We are working with an amazing team of co-designers from all over the Victorian health sector to develop our first strategic plan. We are determined to forge a path forward that genuinely moves the dial on consumer and community engagement in health. We talked about creating a shared language, the values that will guide our work, our collective vision for the future and the problems we need to prioritise in order to make meaningful change. Here is a snapshot of Alison Coughlan and a few of the incredible community members that are joining us on this adventure: Khalid Muse, Hamish Russell, Dilnaz Billimoria and Graham Johnson. Back in November 2022 I was on maternity leave, getting ready to return to work. My sister showed me something new called 'ChatGPT' and I was amazed and nervous for what a tool like that would mean for students studying at university. Fast forward a few months being back at work and I was leading our undergraduate nursing and midwifery course approach to genAI. Together with my enthusiastic and motivated colleagues we developed a course-wide pilot curriculum for integrating genAI into 3 of our undergraduate units. We are really proud of this pilot work and have been able to make an impact for our students to start building their genAI literacy. I am delighted that our paper has been published on the eve of the New Year. This paper highlights the key maternity care challenges faced by African-born women living in Melbourne. These challenges include difficulty navigating the healthcare system, lack of social support in a new country, experiences of discrimination, inadequate information about available services, perceived lack of empowerment, financial constraints, and cultural insensitivity among clinicians. Addressing these issues through the development and implementation of a culturally responsive service delivery model could help mitigate negative experiences, enhance access to adequate maternity care, and ultimately improve perinatal health outcomes for these women. https://lnkd.in/gfDuXSVV
