About us

The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) leads the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services to the Indigenous population of South East Queensland (SEQ). The Institute was established in 2009 by the four Community Controlled Health Services in SEQ to provide for the needs of Australia's second largest Indigenous population. Using the IUIH Model of Care we are empowering communities in South East Queensland to take responsibility for the delivery of health services to Indigenous Australians, by Indigenous Australians. Today, our network includes IUIH, three of our founding Member organisations and additional IUIH-run services: • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service (ATSICHS) Brisbane Limited • Kalwun Development Corporation Limited (Kalwun Health Service) • Yulu-Burri-Ba Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health • Moreton Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service (MATSICHS) • Goodna Clinic.

“The level of professional support and collaboration in the IUIH network is like nowhere I have worked before,” said Dr Richard Mills. Dr Richard Mills thinks general practice work at Moreton ATSICHS is different, in the best possible way! We’re looking for another General Practitioner to join our Moreton Bay team and experience the difference for themselves. Want to hear what working at Moreton ATSICHS in general practice is like? Watch the video below. ⬇ You’ll be joining a supportive interprofessional team that provides genuinely holistic, compassionate, and effective healthcare to deliver on our vision of healthy and strong Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities. IUIH’s focus on healthy and strong Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities in South East Queensland supports psychologists to collaborate in providing high quality, integrated health and social support services. Paul Gautam has worked across the IUIH Network for nine years. “We work in passionate and motivated multidisciplinary teams to support our clients holistically. “The opportunity to build meaningful relationships with colleagues and Community is something I have not experienced in other organisations." Congratulations to the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) for being awarded Queensland Care Consortium (QCC) funding! 🎉 Their funded program ‘Supporting Staff to Support Mob’ aims to deliver culturally responsive and trauma-informed training that equips staff to work alongside First Nations clients and colleagues. • Congratulations Kalwun Development Corporation Ltd on such a momentous milestone. We commend your ongoing compassion, commitment and dedication to building a vital community-controlled health service network and supporting better outcomes for Our People.

On this day 30 years ago Kalwun Development Corporation Ltd was official incorporated and the rest is history. What an amazing journey and a testament to all who have been involved in the company over the past 30 years.   Whilst our establishment dates back to the 1980’s, as the Gold Coast Aboriginal and Islander Housing Coop Society, the transition to Kalwun in 1994 signified a purposeful strategy to diversify our offerings and become resolute in our mission to provide a comprehensive suite of health and humans services for the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.    Kalwun’s evolution has been marked by resilience, compassion, and deep-rooted dedication to improving the lives of those we serve. Please take the time today to reflect on those who have come before you, and pay respects to the struggles, trials and triumphs that have afforded you the privilege and opportunity to work at Kalwun today.    In closing, I thank each and every one you for your ongoing commitment and dedication to Kalwun and our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. Keep that fire burning!!
