Industry Skills Advisory Council NT (ISACNT) is an independent, not for profit organisation that provides advice to and gathers feedback from Northern Territory businesses on skills shortages. Our purpose is to increase industry skills capacity and capability across the Northern Territory. We work with industry, Government, national bodies including Skilled Service Organisations (SSOs), Industry Reference Committees (IRCs), associations, schools and training providers to keep our finger on the pulse of emerging trends in each industry, to ensure Vocational Education and Training (VET) is provided in accordance with industry needs, and to communicate to government to inform the Northern Territory Skilled Occupation Priority List (NTSOPL).

Industry Skills Advisory Council NT - ISACNT's Workforce and Skills Officer Silvia Clucas presented at the Skills Insight/ITABs meeting hosted by Skills Insight in Melbourne. During this two-day meeting, the discussion focused on the operations of the Jobs & Skills Council (JSC) program, workforce planning, JSC project priorities, and industry stewardship structures. Industry Skills Advisory Council NT - ISACNT participated in a roundtable discussion hosted by Service and Creative Skills Australia (SaCSA) in collaboration with various key Registered Training Organisations (RTO) in the Northern Territory. The event focused on three key goals: • Understanding the Workforce: Enhancing data systems and research on roles and career pathways • Retention and Development: Strengthening workforce retention and capability to ensure a skilled, sustainable workforce • Workforce Growth: Expanding the workforce to meet the demand for high-quality training Key stakeholders outlined the current workforce challenges faced by training organisations in the Northern Territory, including: • Shortages of qualified trainers and assessors. • High staff turnover and its underlying causes. • Maintaining industry relevance. • Motivation and attraction of individuals to become trainers and assessors. • Professional development opportunities. • Job-related issues and compliance. • Access to limited resources.
