Have you bought your ticket to the Jesuit Social Services Annual Dinner? We’ll be back at the iconic MCG in just five weeks for our Annual Dinner, the biggest event on our calendar. Join us for a wonderful evening, connecting with our community of wonderful friends and supporters in our shared vision of building a just society. We’re thrilled to have National Children's Commissioner, Anne Hollonds along to deliver the annual Frank Costigan QC Address on the night. The Office of the Children's Commissioner recently released the report Help way earlier!: How Australia can transform child justice to improve safety and wellbeing, and her accompanying speech to the National Press Club of Australia was powerful and important. We hope to see you there! Tickets: https://lnkd.in/gbTjYKef

Every child in Australia deserves the opportunity to thrive, yet current policies leave too many in poverty and without adequate support, with more than one in six children in Australia currently living below the poverty line. Jesuit Social Services has joined other community service and child welfare organisations in supporting the Act for Children campaign. Together, we are advocating for a Cabinet Minister for Children to oversee child wellbeing and rights, a National Children’s Act to ensure accountability for children's rights, a Ministerial Council for Child Wellbeing to provide expert advice and report to the National Cabinet and a National Plan for Child Wellbeing with clear responsibilities across portfolios and jurisdictions. Join us in urging the government to prioritise child safety and wellbeing, and change the way policies are created for children. Visit https://lnkd.in/g4-Mgqta to learn more.

Jesuit Social Services Strategic Projects Lead David Murray joined Ali Moore on ABC Melbourne Drive program yesterday to discuss Magistrate Julie O’Donnell’s new role in the Children’s Court, focused on young people with repeat offending. While Jesuit Social Services welcomes the appointment, as David says our attention must be on stopping young people having contact with the justice system in the first place, for the benefit of young people themselves and the broader community.

Last Sunday we took part in yet another incredible Midsumma Festival event. Our stall was focused around our Support After Suicide Hub, a critical resource for individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community who have been bereaved by suicide. Volunteers from across the organisation came together to speak with attendees and offer them support and resources about how to engage with the program. We are feeling immensely grateful to have been able to take part in such an important day of action and celebration, and we look forward to returning again in 2026. #pride #midsumma #lgbtqia

It's your last chance to complete this survey, capturing the impacts of heat on people experiencing financial stress. Extreme heat in homes has a devastating impact on people’s health and wellbeing, with people who are marginalised or experiencing disadvantage hit hardest. https://lnkd.in/gjrsrNyS
There's only one week left to complete the survey and share your experience of trying to cool your home in the summer. Click here to complete the survey: https://lnkd.in/gK5zc3xJ

As the NT Government implements its new bail laws, prisons and watch houses are already at breaking point. Aside from raising serious concerns about safety, the overcrowding demonstrates that more than ever, we need to be addressing the root causes of crime, implementing measures that minimise peoples contact with the justice system and using restorative practices to improve community safety. https://lnkd.in/g9qXAeKy
