A social profit organisation on a mission to create a world where people with disability have a fair go at life.

About us

We are a social profit organisation on a mission to create a world where people who live with disability have a fair go at what life has to offer. We do this through 3 ways - inform, connect and influence. We listen to feedback from the disability community and use that to inform government, businesses and other organisations how to be inclusive. We run peer groups and events where people living with disability and their families or carers can connect and share experiences. We conduct research and develop policy to influence governments and communities to improve opportunities for people living with disability.

  • Express your interest to take part in our photo shoot! 📷 We are looking for people who are interested in taking part in a professional photo shoot to help visually and authentically represent the diversity of our community. The photos will be used on the new Purple Orange website, which will launch later this year, but may also be used in our marketing materials (online and printed) across the Julia Farr group, including inhousing, Stretchy Tech and JFM Fund. It is important that our images reflect the broad range of people we work with. The photo shoot will take place in March or April at a location in Adelaide during business hours. If you’re interested in taking part, please contact the Julia Farr group Media team by emailing media@juliafarr.org.au by Friday 28 February. In your email, please include: - Your availability and preferred days of the week. - If you're comfortable, please share a little about your disability or access needs to help us ensure broad representation. This is optional, and your information will be handled with care. - Any additional questions you may have. Honorariums will be provided to participants to thank them for their contribution. As we aim to represent a diverse range of disability, we will review all expressions of interest. This means we may not be able to include everyone who expresses interest, but we truly appreciate your willingness to be involved.

  • "There are so many things that get overlooked without the perspective of people with disability." As someone with disability, I want to share perspective—whether through my art or through co-design. My wife and I have both been part of co-design projects because we’ve experienced barriers that often get overlooked. Things that might seem small can make the difference between accessible and not. This process has been completely positive and validating. The space is welcoming, safe, and filled with people who understand. It’s been a great start to the advocacy and awareness work I want to do. • In December 2024, the NDIA announced an independent review of NDIS-funded art and music therapy and supports. The review will be conducted by Dr Stephen Duckett AM. JFA Purple Orange is seeking feedback from NDIS participants, families and allies, providers, and others to inform our advocacy regarding this review. You can remain anonymous. The review will focus on the NDIA’s proposal to change the way it funds art and music supports. The NDIA states there is insufficient evidence to support the effectiveness of art and music therapy for most people with disability. As a result, the NDIA’s proposal is to: - Fund art or music therapy at $193.99 per hour as a stated support in a participant’s plan where there is evidence of effectiveness for the specific needs and circumstances of the participant; or to - Fund art and music therapy at $193.99 per hour in a group setting with at least four participants (with the cost to each participant plan being $193.99 divided by the number of participants). - If either of the above is not met, then art and music programs would be funded under Participation in Community, Social and Civic Activities and subject to a price limit of $67.56 per hour. Your deidentified feedback will be used in our submission to this review and to inform our advocacy generally. Please complete the questionnaire here https://buff.ly/3Cly6e7 by 11:45pm Thursday 30 January 2025.
