🚀 The Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) Taking Off Program concluded last week with a memorable end-of-year celebration! 🔥 The day began with morning tea and a chance to connect, followed by engaging activities like art, cultural exploration, and even mastering the art of fire-starting with sticks. Students and mentors reflected on the meaningful relationships built, the program’s impact, and the incredible growth achieved over the year. A highlight was the cultural feast featuring traditional Aboriginal foods, including bush tomato sauces, kangaroo, chicken, and crocodile – a delicious way to connect with culture! 🍴 Students also networked with employers and tried their hand at spear throwing. 🪃 The celebration ended with a heartfelt Memorable Moments from the Year ceremony, recognising achievements and milestones. 🎨✨ Last week, our talented Troy Dargan had the incredible opportunity to see his artwork installed at Castle Hill Public School! 🦘🐾 In collaboration with ADCO Constructions, the school, students, parents, and the AECG, Troy’s design tells the story of students journey through school, supported by teachers and mentors. Taking inspiration from the school colours the artwork also honours local waterways and scenic views across the Hills District. With the right tools, support, and knowledge, students will continue to move forward in life, never stepping backward—symbolised by the kangaroo and emu footprints. The boomerangs represent the returning school community who come back year after year, making a lasting impact. On Friday, I graduated from the KARI Leadership Program, feeling proud and grateful. Commonwealth Bank has been a longstanding partner of KARI , an Indigenous not-for-profit organisation dedicated to building community strength, supporting wellbeing, and enriching lives through various programs and services. Each year, CommBank sponsors Indigenous employees across the group to participate in this transformative program. The importance of the program is it aims to raise our Indigenous leadership talent to new heights by blending traditional ways of leading with an understanding of Western scholarly education. This unique combination creates leaders of the future at CommBank. I hope more of our aspiring leaders can experience the coaching, learnings, and overall growth that I have been fortunate to gain through the program. For me, it was more than just a program; it was an experience of personal growth. It allowed me to focus on sharing and acknowledging the strengths not only of myself but also of my fellow leaders who joined me on this journey. Self-reflection on what sets us apart as leaders can be confronting but is crucial. Learning how to navigate complex and critical situations in the workplace has set the stage for significant personal growth and exploration. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this program, and it has been a career highlight for me. I have met some of the most compassionate and caring people, all while striving to be better, do better, and make a positive difference in our personal and corporate worlds.
