  • When you’re diagnosed with kidney disease and need to start on dialysis, your whole life completely changes. Hayley had to adjust to being a first-time mum as well as beginning dialysis. “The only way I can be a mum, get to dialysis and manage my immune-compromised health is full-time childcare. My amazing childcare team send me photos every day, so I can see what Sage is doing, and I call them all the time. But it doesn’t make me feel any less guilty. I so desperately want to be a fully present mum. Kidney disease took my identity. It took my friends, it took my family, it took my career. The whole trajectory of my life changed. At best, all I can hope for is a transplant - which sadly is not even a cure.” With your help, we can be there to support those impacted by kidney disease with targeted services and programs at every stage, from awareness to diagnosis, treatment, transplant, and beyond. Make a difference today. Your donation will help more Australians like Hayley impacted by kidney disease get the support they need: https://lnkd.in/gtjmMHkU

  • The feedback we received from the dialysis community is clear – dialysis treatment is a huge burden on people’s lives. That’s why we believe more needs to be done to change the future of kidney disease. And it starts now. While we continue to provide services at every stage of kidney disease to our community and support short term solutions that increase treatment access now, we must turn off the tap and stop people from reaching kidney failure in the first place. We look forward to a time when fewer people need dialysis treatment and those on it can have alternative options to get off it faster. • Kidney Health Australia is forging partnerships with the clinical, research and political communities to bring the kidney revolution to reality. It will take work and the road to 2050 will be challenging, but together we can make it happen. The time is now to look to the future of kidney disease. Watch this endorsement video from Professor Brendan Murphy AC, former Nephrologist, Australian Chief Medical Officer and Health Department Secretary. • It’s time to focus on new treatments and early detection and prevention programs that give back quality of life.  It’s time to innovate. A 50 year old treatment is not good enough. We must challenge the status quo together for future generations. As our support programs and services continue to grow, we’re focusing on walking hand in hand with our strong courageous community for a brighter healthier life, free of invasive treatments.  Together, we are rewriting the narrative of kidney disease.  Learn how you can get involved here: kidney.org.au/2050 #kidneyrevolution #ed2050 #enddialysisby2050

This week I had the privilege of travelling to Canberra for the launch of Kidney Health Australia’s bold new aspiration: to End Dialysis by 2050. The event and the launch to the community were many months in the works. It was so very rewarding seeing it all come to life, and for it to be so well received by Parliamentarians, key stakeholders and the wider kidney community. Kidney disease in Australia is in crisis. My time at Kidney Health Australia has shown me how big a burden dialysis is on people’s lives. It’s time to find a better option. So grateful to be part of such an incredible team that is so hard working, collaborative, focused and ambitious! • Last week, our Bequest Coordinator and Kidney Voice, Lesley Tozer met with two of our special supporters, Roger and Margaret, who have made the most generous decision to leave a gift in their Will to the kidney community. They discussed our new End Dialysis by 2050 aspiration which Roger and Margaret were excited about. Maragaret has kidney failure, having been diagnosed with PKD at the age of 23. She has been lucky enough to receive a kidney transplant but remembers the burden of dialysis treatment. We are so grateful for the thoughtfulness of Supporters like Roger and Margaret. • We have a crisis in kidney health. Now is the time to demand long-term change. We must be ambitious in order to stand out and change the future of kidney disease in Australia. It’s time for us to dream big in order to get in front of this insidious disease. We must demand better for the Australian kidney community – because, in short, you all deserve better. Our services will continue to grow, supporting people at all stages of their kidney disease journeys. Ultimately, doing more of the same will not accelerate the search for cures. We need to start changing the future now. The time is now to say ‘enough’ and think long-term. #kidneyrevolution #ed2050 #enddialysisby2050
