About us
Lacoste+Stevenson is a design-based architectural practice established by Thierry Lacoste and David Stevenson in 1997. As a result of an international partnership, the practice takes advantage of local and global influences to produce a distinctive architecture. The directors lead a creative design studio that is highly skilled in design and building technologies and experienced in building delivery. Design solutions strive to exceed the client’s expectations. The practice provides innovative architectural, urban design and interior design services that are tailored to the opportunities and constraints of the brief and budget. Creative solutions are sought for opportunities and challenges in the built environment, motivated by the desire to provide sensitive and stimulating environments that articulate and facilitate all aspects of human endeavor and encounter. Projects are not produced in a particular style; each project generates its own outcome as a result of client brief, community and stakeholder consultation, site, budget, environmental measures and creative input resulting in a unique piece of architecture each time. Each commission presents an opportunity to explore design ideas that produces urban design and architecture of delight and intellectual rigour for both clients and users. Environment, landscape and building are often viewed as one in seamless integration. The collaborative practice of Lacoste+Stevenson is strong on innovative design and the ability to deliver projects given the inevitable challenges that arise during master planning, community consultation, urban design, architecture, costing, documentation and construction. The collective skills of like-minded people from many and varying backgrounds and experience strive to create a level of interaction and enquiry that challenges the obvious and drives innovative, stimulating exceptional architectural and urban design solutions.

PHIVE—Parramatta Civic Hub has been recognised on the world stage by The Chicago Athenaeum and European Centre for Architecture (This link opens in a new window) , claiming a 2024 International Architecture Award in the Civic Centre category. Over six levels, PHIVE is a community landmark changer for Parramatta—providing a wide range of cultural amenity and public services including a library, shared gathering spaces, events and exhibitions, café, and council chambers. The project, designed by DesignInc, Lacoste + Stevenson and Manuelle Gautrand Architecture, was one of 130 awarded projects selected from around the world in 33 categories. PHIVE achieved a 6 Star Green Star Design & As Built v1.2 certification earlier this year, home to sustainability features including a tessellated roof façade with fully shaded windows, solar collectors and water harvesting, mixed-mode ventilation linked to the Bureau of Meteorology, and incorporation of the City of Parramatta’s 100% renewable electricity supply. For its firm environmental agenda, PHIVE is named a finalist in the World Green Building Council’s APAC Leadership in Sustainable Design Awards.
