Who’s heard of @FazitBeauty? Yah- me neither… until this week when Tay Tay sent their sales off the deep-end by wearing their iconic makeup patches to a Chiefs game. According to their latest reel, their sales accelerated to 2500% IN 13 HOURS 🤯 It got me thinking, about the importance of systems and processes in a business. If your service suddenly accelerated overnight, do you have the infrastructure in place to cope with the demand? I’m not just talking about stock volume. It’s more than that- it’s processes to deal with increased DMs and emails, it’s systems to pump out bulk orders, it’s hiring protocols to bring on additional employees and contractors, it’s complaint management standard operating procedures. This photo 🥹 Today I met a close friend for brunch at my local, we were booked for 9:30am. Today my candidates were headed for second interviews for a Head of Sales role. One of them asked for a morning run through of his presentation. Of course I said yes! So I dropped our 2 kiddies off at daycare, legged it to the cafe and jumped on a google meet to hear his pitch. My friend arrived a tad early and then sneaky-snapped this 🥹🥹🥹 In my whole career this is the first time anyone has looked at me doing my thing, snapped a pic and sent it to me 😭 the caption was “Ps took this of you in your element today!” I really care about what I do, sometimes I can’t believe this is my life now. Last week I spent 3 hours with my client Bek, deep diving on her business financials, she is in the hair game and let me tell you, her game is stronggg. Her hair game that is, her pricing is a whole other story. See- Bek reopened her shopfront salon after years of working from a home salon, her loyal clients came back in droves, yet her bank account was still going backwards. Every time I spoke to Bek she was stressed off her brain trying to figure out where things were going wrong. At this rate, the salon would be lucky to see its 1st birthday, and all her loyal clients would be left with no choice but to find a new hair wizard. First we narrowed down what is her end game here, is it a certain amount of take home $$? Is it a certain day of the week off? Is it hiring a team? Turns out Bek loves her biz like a third baby (like most business owners) and her end-game goal was 2 things… bring in a salary of $100k pa after tax and pivot her business into specialising in hair extensions, a service that sets her heart on fire. Next up we got granular, we worked though every single nitty-gritty expense conceivable that is required to keep the doors open and lights on for her business. When I say granular, I mean we literally worked out “how many mls of product on average is used to wash and blowdry a client’s hair and divided that by the cost of the litre bottle” level granular. The end result we uncovered is that her current prices were way below being profitable and even below the market average. A wash and blowdry that is currently $50, should be charged at $150…. I know, i know WTAF. Now I wont pretend like Bek skipped off into the sunshine, telling all her clients she is tripling her prices, far from it. However she is now armed with information to take messy action. We talked through her mindset on pricing, why pricing increases feel yuck and uncomfortable for her, what she is making it mean if she raises her prices, and what stories she is telling herself about her loyal client base and how they may react to a price increase. In the wrap up we chatted through some strategies to gradually increase her prices to a more sustainable level and opportunities for other streams of income to help bolster her while she raises her prices. Sometimes we tell stories to ourselves on what our loyal clients can afford as a way to protect ourselves from needing to have uncomfortable conversations with those we value most, our loyal clients. I want to leave you wth this: loyal clients are loyal because they LOVE what you do, not because they LOVE your price.
