Lighting is important in creating safe and inclusive spaces. Studies have found that better street lighting can result in more people walking and that people avoid walking in parks at night if they are not well lit. Many studies have found that good lighting is related to increased feelings of safety. Public lighting is an equity issue, as it is particularly important for women and older people. Victoria Walks prepared an extensive research report with input from expert lighting engineers Webb Australia, which considered the evidence around the need for appropriate lighting at night in public spaces. With a focus on areas for informal use that are not covered by streetlight, it also considered locations where lighting is most beneficial and how this should be delivered. We conduct research to inform walkability for liveable, lovable communities. DM us now for your walking research needs. • Making positive change for outback communities 🌟 Through the Illuminating Communities Initiative, Leadsun is bringing sustainable solar lighting to remote towns, transforming lives with safer spaces, brighter nights, and stronger futures 💡✨ This non profit initiative truly is special, driven by the incredible dedication of our Leadsun volunteers and support and direction from our partners at SolarBuddy. Every project is a collective effort to ensure no community is left in the dark, no matter how remote. We’re proud to collaborate with like-minded organisations and individuals to make a lasting impact on regional Australia—lighting the way for positive change and a brighter, more sustainable future.

  • Abolishing energy poverty, one light at a time ⚡ Through the Illuminating Communities Initiative, Leadsun and SolarBuddy are working together to transform lives across regional Australia. By installing solar lighting, we’re not just lighting up streets—we’re enhancing safety, improving liveability, and bringing hope to communities that have been left in the dark for far too long 🌟 This initiative is about more than just providing light; it’s about creating brighter, safer spaces where families can thrive. It’s about making a difference where it matters most and ensuring that no community, no matter how remote, is left behind. With every light installed, we take one more step toward ending energy poverty. This is a mission we’re proud to lead, and we won’t stop until every regional town shines with the power of sustainable energy 💡✨

  • Imagine living in a place like this… 🌄 Our latest journey with the Illuminating Communities Initiative took Leadsun, alongside our valued partners SolarBuddy and the Origin Energy Foundation, to the remote communities of Ngukurr and Wuyagiba. Here, we provided more than just solar lighting; we offered a source of safety, security, and opportunity to communities where reliable light has a profound impact on daily life 🌟 For residents, these lights mean safer nights, peace of mind, and renewed hope. Eddie from Wuyagiba shared, ‘Now I don’t have to worry about dingoes when I go to the toilet at night.’ This simple yet powerful statement captures how transformative these lights are—from securing public spaces to making entire compounds feel safe after dark. Our commitment runs deep: we won’t stop until every regional community shines with sustainable, reliable energy. This initiative isn’t just a project; it’s a mission to bridge the energy gap and ensure that every community, no matter how remote, can experience the life-changing benefits of light ✨

  • Low visibility along a Kardinya pedestrian access way (PAW) made it unsafe at night and residents were avoiding the area, taking the long way home via a busy arterial road.
