What a day to remember! ✨ This Christmas season, 230 fabulous beneficiaries gathered at the Torrens Parade Ground for a festive feast that could rival Santa’s workshop! We kicked off the celebration with a warm welcome from our President, Heather Willis, who reminded us of the wonderful events held throughout the year through our various Widows' Clubs and Social Groups. She also emphasized the importance of staying connected with one another. Father Christmas made a surprise visit, spreading holiday cheer as he handed out gifts to each beneficiary, reminding us all that the spirit of giving is truly what Christmas is all about. With full bellies and hearts, we celebrated the season together, creating memories that will last far beyond the day itself. Here’s to the joy of community, the warmth of friendship, and the magic of being part of the Legacy Family. Merry Christmas! 💙

A Huge Thank You to Our Amazing Legatees! We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our Legatees for their hard work on the BBQ at Bunnings Mile End. It was a busy day from the moment we kicked off at 9am until we sold out at 4pm. The support from the community was simply overwhelming. A special thank you to everyone who came down to support us! 💙

It was lovely to be able to bring some early festive cheer to families of our veterans during this year's Christmas Pudding run for the Legacy Club of South Australia and Broken Hill. I was greeted with warmth, smiles, and the odd cuddle. 😊 What a wonderful initiative by Legacy. I'm thankful BAE Systems Australia encourages our participation. ps. yes I love Christmas clothes time 😁

Last Friday evening, Legatee Rob Eley attended the Number 1 Armoured Regiment Annual Cambrai Celebration, a major event that started at 1000h and continued until 2300h. During the event, Rob had the opportunity to speak with Private Marc Glamuzina, the young soldier who made a generous donation to Legacy on the day. The donation stemmed from a unique auction, where participants bid money for the right to donate to a charity of their choice. Marc was a strong bidder and ultimately won with a bid of $5050, which he donated to Legacy. It was a pleasure for Rob to meet Marc, who was both surprised and grateful to receive thanks in person. Rob briefly addressed the crowd, focusing on Legacy Youth programs initiatives such as Operation Flinders, One and All, and ANZAC Day at the War Memorial in Canberra. The key message of his speech emphasized the importance of providing young people with opportunities for personal growth and development. He also highlighted how Marc’s donation would benefit Legacy.

NEW CEO, PRESIDENT AND BOARD CHAIR FOR LEGACY SA & BROKEN HILL Dan Demaria has been appointed as CEO, Legacy South Australia and Broken Hill. Dan is currently Head of The Advertiser Foundation which is the fundraising arm of News Corp in South Australia. He has held this role for just over 2 years and has worked with News Corp for 17 years mostly in the role of General Manager, Marketing & Consumer Sales assisting The Advertiser Foundation over that time. Dan’s appointment follows the recent appointments of existing Legacy Board members Heather Willis as President and Meredith Wyles as Board Chair – the first time Legacy SA&BH has had women in both key positions. Dan said “Legacy plays a critical role in the community serving the families of those who served – whether in World War I and II, Korea and Vietnam or more recently in Iraq, East Timor, Afghanistan and other conflicts. I am looking forward to helping build on the great work the organisation has performed to date”. Legacy SA & BH President Heather Willis said “Now is an important time of renewal and growth for Legacy. We moved to our new central Torrens Parade Ground offices early last year and recently set a strategic direction that will stand us in good stead to continue to support our existing beneficiaries and also meet the needs of young families of the future. I am looking forward to working with Dan and our Board as we continue to build relationships with Government and the community so we can keep our Legacy promise to care for the families of our veterans.” Legacy SA & BH Board Chair Meredith Wyles said “As we move towards our centenary in 2028 Legacy SA and BH needs to cherish its past but, at the same time, must continue to provide relevant help to veterans’ families when they turn to us for support. I’m confident that Dan, working with the Board, will very ably lead us as we look back on past achievements while keeping as a top priority the need to provide appropriate services now and into the future. The Board thanks current CEO Kerryn Smith for her three years of service, during which she managed numerous changes including physically moving the organisation from Legacy House in Franklin Street to offices at Torrens Parade Ground. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.” Dan Demaria commences his appointment on Monday, 20 January 2025.
