  • Congratulations to our acting Deputy Director Family Law Anna Baltins who has been named the The Law Society of NSW's Government Solicitor of the Year. Anna has worked tirelessly in support of people impacted by domestic and family violence and this award is recognition of her skill, care and expertise. All three solicitors shortlisted in this category were Legal Aid NSW lawyers: Anthony Levin and Hayley Dean were very worthy finalists alongside Anna. Melissa Murphy rounds out Legal Aid NSW's total of four finalists in the awards – her excellent work was recognised when named as a finalist in the Early Career Lawyer of the Year category. Well done to all!

As a rights-based organisation, advocating for social justice is non-negotiable. This year on International Day for People with Disability, we launched the Legal Aid NSW Disability Inclusion Action Plan. The Legal Aid NSW Disability Inclusion Action Plan is our comprehensive blueprint designed to help ensure accessibility and inclusivity across our organisation. Co-designed with clients, staff and disability organisations, the plan was developed through the lived and living experience of people with disability and mental health conditions. Thank you to the Intellectual Disability Rights Service, Council for Intellectual Disability, Flourish Australia, Side By Side Advocacy and Neami National who provided feedback and support on the plan. You can find the plan, including an easy read version, on the Legal Aid NSW website. https://lnkd.in/gpCMN5Ft
