  • When Kimani* arrived at Binbi Family Recovery with her young daughter, she was ready to rebuild her life. Binbi Family Recovery is one of our residential alcohol and other drug (AOD) services, providing parents the opportunity to stay with their young children in comfortable family units while they take part in our treatment program 🏡 💚. Kimani had faced many challenges in her life, including childhood trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and chronic pain. She was determined to achieve abstinence from methamphetamine and cannabis. 🧠 With the support of the program, Kimani developed strategies to manage her mental health. By the end of the program, she had achieved abstinence, reduced her anxiety and depression to mild levels, and raised her Quality of Life score from 5/10 to 10/10. 📖 Read Kimani’s full story and more about our work in our 2023-2024 Annual Report: https://buff.ly/4gF6wa7 🔗 Learn more about Binbi Family Recovery: https://buff.ly/4dPG4tz Do you know someone who could benefit from a supportive, family-focused recovery program? • 💡 At Lighthouse, young people who have been impacted by past complex trauma can learn skills to create positive life changes. Lighthouse may be for your clients if they are aged 12-18, live on the Gold Coast and have survived traumatic events. It is a free mental health support service. Our Lighthouse service aims to support a young person and their family / carers / kin to better understand and manage the impacts of distressing life experiences. The service provides specialised treatment, including individual and/or group sessions, with a focus on empowering recovery and building resilience. We believe that healing doesn’t mean the trauma never existed but rather that it no longer needs to control a young person’s life. ➡️ Learn more and refer young people to the service via the link below: https://buff.ly/4g0Gcaz

  • 🎉✨ Celebrating 50 years of life-changing support! Fifty years ago, local GP Dr Rob Richardson founded the Gold Coast Drug Council to address a critical gap in alcohol and drug support. This led to the creation of Mirikai—a "place of peace"—in Burleigh, which has grown from a small brick house into a leading residential rehabilitation service. In 2012, the Gold Coast Drug Council merged with the Alcohol and Drug Foundation Queensland to form Lives Lived Well, combining expertise and resources to continue this important work. As we celebrate this milestone, we’re raising awareness that support is available—especially at this reflective time of year when many consider making positive changes for the future. 💙 📖 Read the full story: https://buff.ly/49ZhpSc #50YearsOfSupport #Mirikai #LivesLivedWell #RecoveryJourney #GoldCoast #PositiveChange #AODSupport

  • 🏆 Announcing the Winners of our 2024 Annual Report Photo Competition! This year, we held our first-ever Annual Report Photo Competition, inviting staff to showcase the landscapes, communities, and people that define the areas we serve across Queensland, New South Wales, and South Australia. Here are the winners: ⭐ Human Interest Winner: Jack K, "Fishing for shade at a red rock picnic" 📍 Western QLD, between Bedourie and Birdsville. Jack’s photo captures a moment on a remote Outback trip, highlighting the unique challenges and vast beauty of delivering AOD counselling in flood-prone areas. "The drive between Bedourie and Birdsville is long with not much in sight if you don't love how red and vast the landscape is. We stumbled upon a bench and chairs in 'the middle of nowhere' and were keen for a break from the drive. Somebody was kind enough to leave an umbrella for shade, however, the umbrella didn't work very well, and it looks as though Tania H (left) has a massive fish on the line. Something probably not possible out here, at the moment. One thing to highlight here. This is an area where Sarah L (right) has been delivering AOD counselling for a couple of years and is often blocked off from reaching these areas because of flooding. Driving through this country it was hard to imagine it flooded." ⭐ Natural environment category winner - Melisha D, “Winter sunset in the tropics” 📍 Shoal Point, Mackay. Melisha, an AOD Counsellor Case Manager in Mackay, captured this stunning winter sunset that embodies the tropical charm of the region. ⭐ Overall excellence category winner - Skye E, “Sandos Sandhills” 📍 Windorah, South West Queensland. Skye, part of the South West Queensland AOD team, captured this striking image while working on an AOD stigma reduction project in Western Queensland. "The team took the opportunity to visit the red sand hills outside of Windorah." Congratulations to our talented winners! Stay tuned for another post showcasing more incredible entries. 💚
