About us
CANCER SURVIVORS If you are a cancer survivor, you know how unique your experience is. While we can and do plan much in our life and work, cancer is not one of them. As a recent survivor of breast cancer, I am committed to helping people through their cancer-work journey with confidence. Please feel free to reach out via LinkedIn and I will seek to assist. @Sue Woodall GAICD EMPLOYERS SUPPORTING CANCER SURVIVORS The cancer journey is long, and research informs us the impact is often underestimated by not only the individual, but families, friends, and employers. Individuals report loneliness, sense of disempowerment, loss of control and self-confidence, and a real feeling of being burdensome. Cancer support in the workplace needs to be developed. This is an issue for all organisations, and it is not going away. The number of working-aged people with cancer is growing and there is evidence that work outcomes, including return to work, are often poor. Through the lived experience of breast cancer, LiveWorkCancer aims to inspire change in the workplace through targeted, practical support of individuals on their cancer journey. By improving support at work for cancer survivors, organisations will improve productivity, an enhance their employee value proposition and protect the investment in people; and it is the right thing to do! Is it time to explore how you can improve support for your employees experiencing cancer? Reach out on LinkedIn if you need assistance. @Sue Woodall GAICD

🌟 Supporting Employees Affected by Cancer: The Role of Reasonable Adjustments 🌟 As we strive to create inclusive and supportive workplaces, it’s essential to consider how reasonable adjustments can significantly impact employees navigating health challenges, particularly those affected by cancer. These adjustments not only support individual needs but also reflect a commitment to an inclusive workplace culture. Here are some examples of reasonable adjustments that can make a real difference: ✨ Flexible hours that align with treatment schedules and aid in recovery from side effects. ✨Remote work options to reduce commuting stress and provide a workspace that conserves the persons energy. ✨ Adjusted workloads focusing on essential tasks that match the person current capacity and capability. ✨Quiet time during the day to recharge and manage fatigue. ✨Adjusted performance expectations to recognise individual circumstances and fluctuations in health ✨Additional resources such as like peer mentorship or job shadowing to ease transitions. These adjustments should be included in a Supportive Work Plan to ensure that the person feels valued and empowered. Let’s continue to foster open conversations about these adjustments and create environments where everyone can thrive, regardless of the challenges they face. Together, we can make a difference! 💪✨ Looking for a template to capture reasonable adjustments? https://lnkd.in/gGzxhf2C #CancerCare #WorkplaceSupport #EmployeeWellbeing #Inclusion #ReasonableAdjustments #PreventFinancialToxicityCausedbyCancer #CancerAwareness #BreastCancer #ProstateCancer #LungCancer #LiverCancer #CompassionateLeadership #WorkplaceSupport #LiveWorkCancer #WorkplaceWellbeing #BreakingTheSilence #CompassionInTheWorkplace #SupportInAction #DiversityEquityInclusion #WorkandCancer #WHS

Supporting Employees Affected by Cancer: A Call for Better Workplace Practices Cancer doesn’t just disrupt health—it disrupts our work, careers and financial security. The COSA Financial Toxicity Roadmap underscores the need for job and income security reforms to mitigate these impacts. It’s time for employers to take action and ensure that individuals affected by cancer are supported to enable them to achieve their work goals and preference without adverse impact on their health, including their mental health. https://lnkd.in/gX5RCfqF Cancer Council Victoria highlights the impact cancer has on mental health – noting that 40% of cancer patients experience clinically significant mental health issues, including depression and anxiety, the need for care is evident. https://lnkd.in/gj9QMZaS. In 2020, I personally experienced how a cancer diagnosis can throw life into disarray, including physical, emotional, and cognitive challenges that impacted my ability to work. People affected by cancer often lack the energy to advocate for themselves in the workplace, and many fear the difficult conversations with managers, HR and colleagues. We need structured support in all workplaces so that no one must navigate work and cancer alone. It’s not just about time off; it’s about creating flexible, evolving plans that reflect each employee’s unique challenges and contributions. It is time to prioritise cancer support just as we do for mental health and workplace injuries. Let’s build work environments where individuals feel confident disclosing their diagnosis, knowing they will be fully supported. Together, we can reduce the financial and emotional toll of cancer on employees and foster more compassionate, inclusive and productive workplaces. Need guidance? 🌟 Start the Conversation: Cancer Awareness in Your Workplace 🌟 Did you know nearly 40% of cancers affect people of working age? From September through November, awareness for major cancers—like Breast, Prostate, Liver, and Lung—takes centre stage. As your workplace recognises these awareness months, ask yourself: How prepared are you to provide the best possible support for colleagues experiencing these or any type of cancer (including our carers)? Let’s use this time to spark meaningful conversations and action in the workplace by: ✅ Creating a Safe Space – Foster an environment where employees feel comfortable discussing health challenges openly. ✅ Leading with Compassion – Show care by recognising the physical and emotional impacts of cancer, especially invisible side effects like loss of confidence, “chemo brain,” and fatigue. Act to meet the unique needs of your colleagues. ✅ Providing Resources – Ensure access to support beyond EAP: flexible work options, tailored policies, and practical resources to help colleagues balance work with their health. Let’s work together to create workplaces that are truly understanding and supportive for those impacted by cancer. ✨ Need guidance?
