About us

Workforce Australia - Local Jobs - Mid North SA (previously called The Local Jobs Program Mid North SA) connecting people with jobs and skills, and employers with workers in Mid North including Port Pirie, Clare, Southern Flinders, Yorke Peninsula, Barossa Valley and Adelaide Plains. A Local Jobs and Skills Taskforce will be established in each of the regions to identify key employment priorities and strengthen linkages between stakeholders. The Taskforce will play a central role leveraging existing programs and aligning efforts on the ground to ensure collaboration is maximised, duplication is minimised, and outcomes are achieved. A Local Recovery Fund of $250,000 will be available in the Mid North SA region to support projects that assist job seekers into employment. The Employment Facilitator can provide more information on the Local Jobs Program, and also help organisations and employers better understand and connect with Government programs, services and funding for employment.   • 🚀 Jobs and Skills Yorke & Mid North Network Meeting 🚀 Last Thursday in Port Pirie, we gathered for our quarterly Jobs and Skills Yorke & Mid North Network meeting, bringing together local organisations, industry leaders, and workforce experts to discuss employment, skills, and training opportunities in our region. 🔹 Guest Speaker Spotlight 🔹 We welcomed Chris Stringer & Matt Adams from Nyrstar Port Pirie, who shared details about the 2025 Operator Traineeship Program—an exciting 12-month program to address and overcome challenges with recruiting and retaining operators and equipping participants with essential industry skills, a nationally recognised qualification and additional work/life support. Applications may have closed for the current intake, and we’ll provide further information on future intakes when they occur. 🔹 Regional Updates 🔹 We covered key workforce initiatives, including: ✅ New community-driven initiatives coming in 2025 ✅ 2025 Career Roadshows – Helping our community connect with career, jobs and training opportunities ✅ Regional Care Sector Workforce Summit – Addressing workforce needs in the care sector ✅ Cleaner Workforce Shortages – Tackling regional employment gaps ✅ Essentials Day – coming to Yorketown in April! 🔹 Networking & Collaboration 🔹 Attendees had the chance to share insights, discuss challenges, and explore ways to support workforce development in the region.   • With the support of the Government of South Australia, this program aims to develop essential soft skills, job skills, employability skills, and fundamental literacy, numeracy, and reading skills for success in the service industry, alongside seven accredited units of competency, which are eligible for credit towards a Certificate III in Retail (SIR30126): ✅ SIRXCEG002 - Assist with customer difficulties ✅ SIRXCEG003 - Build customer relationships and loyalty ✅ SIRXCOM002 - Work effectively in a team ✅ SIRXRSK001 - Identify and respond to security risks ✅ CHCDIV001 - Work with diverse people ✅ SIRXWHS002 - Contribute to workplace health and safety ✅ SIRXCEG008 - Manage disrespectful, aggressive, or abusive customers Here’s what participants will benefit from: • Foundation Skills: We’ll help improve their numeracy, literacy, and basic computer skills. • Job Readiness: Practical advice on writing CVs, job applications, and interview tips to help them get ready for work. • Soft Skills: Building resilience, communication skills, customer service skills and teamwork, which are valuable in both work and life. • Accredited Training: All 7 units achieved are eligible for credit towards full qualifications Certificate III Retail SIR30126.
