Calling out behaviour that falls below the expected standards is one of the HARDEST things for a councillor to do. Particularly when that conversation needs to be had with another councillor and the behaviour has been justified as part of the political nature of the role. The mental worry that comes with this scenario can seriously corrode a councillor's wellbeing and is certainly something that keeps people up at night! How do you take ethical action in a courageous and kind way? Join Nicole Turnbull at our upcoming Political Wellbeing Summit where she will be sharing her insights into this topic. Nicole is a courageous leader and trailblazer, with a passion is creating safe, courageous, and thriving workplaces. She also ran as a candidate in the 2024 local government elections and was successfully elected to MidCoast Council. As Chief Courage Officer of her business, Neon Shed, Nicole brings light to the dark sides of work. As Nicole says: "Disrespect is a difficult thing to raise because there's a lot of grey area, and it's hard to know how to call out behavior without being disrespectful and without being confrontational" Join us 26-28 February 2025 for this trailblazing conversation. https://lnkd.in/gnhwg4z9 #LeadershipSummit #PoliticalWellbeing #Courage #EthicalAction #CourageousLeaders #LocalGov #LocalGovernment #Electedleaders #politicalwellbeingsummit2025

Most local government councillors maintain full or part-time employment. Developing a strategy to blend elected leadership, with employment and your personal life is no mean feat! Great diary management, excellent time-management and having clear boundaries are some important considerations to manage your time and capacity. But there are other considerations too. And it can be easy to bite off more than you can chew, and then find that you feel pulled in all directions and are struggling to fulfil your commitments both in your civic and personal life. This can easily lead to overwhelm. This is why "time and capacity" is an element in our political wellbeing framework. And we're excited to hear directly from Kinne Ring, Mayor of Kempsey Shire Council about her personal strategies to manage the various roles and responsibilities she has and how this influences her mental wellbeing. We are particularly interested in how she has managed the increased workload as a a new Mayor. Be sure to join the Political Wellbeing Summit to hear Kinne share her insights into what has and hasn't worked to best manage her time and optimise her capacity. Councillors have a unique opportunity to shape their community’s conversations online—and how you show up can make all the difference. We advocate for mindful and intentional socia media presence. Here are 7 digital personas you might explore as an elected representative: 1️⃣ Unplugged – Choose to step back from social media altogether, whether occasionally or consistently to look after your mental wellbeing. 2️⃣ Listener – Stay in the loop by observing conversations without directly engaging or commenting on posts. 3️⃣ Informer – Use your platform to share essential council updates and ways to get involved to foster greater community participation in decision-making. 4️⃣ Sharer – Go beyond council news, sharing updates about your local area, events, and broader government initiatives that are relevant to the needs of your community. 5️⃣ Civic Leader – Lead with intention, fostering respectful dialogue and setting a standard for community discussions. Step into hard conversations and take a stand on uncivil behaviour. 6️⃣ Contributor – Actively engage in local online groups, sharing insights and participating in broader community conversations to empower your community. 7️⃣ Point scorer – Sometimes, it’s about making your voice heard and driving a strong political message. Remember, these personas aren’t mutually exclusive, and how you show up is likely to change over time and depending on the issue. What is most important is consciously deciding how to engage online. Curious about how to shift gears from campaign mode to governing, especially online?
